Earth Day Celebration 11 am, First Church in Boston--WERS and Live Streaming Facebook
"Earth Day in Pandemic Times" Daniel Lawlor preaching
"See a blossom in your mind's eye. Allow it to fill the interior of your imagination."
- Rev. Carolyn Owen Towle
This Sunday upcoming, we begin a week-long celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. We must pause to cultivate an imagination as vast as the challenges we face. The Transcendentalists had a vision of the beckoning of justice and nature as intertwined, and Environmental Justice activists today tell us -again and again- we are in storied lands, with actual competing histories and choices of neglect and care. As young marchers have challenged all of us in the last few years, like the posters read, "the waters are rising- and so must we!" Let's imagine the seeds we must plant for Boston and the world to heal.

Social Justice Updates
Earth Day! April 22 is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day! On April 19th, we will begin a week-long celebration. Our sermons and meditations from April 19th thru 26th will be in dialogue with ecology, justice and pandemic times, and on Sunday, April 26th, the Social Justice Team will be hosting a special panel, moderated by Dr. Neenah Estrella Luna, at 1pm on Zoom, "What Does Earth Day Mean During COVID-19?"
As Tiffany Lin writes, our panel will share stories of green work at First Church Boston on environmental justice and "discuss how COVID 19 relates to the climate crisis- how they both are threat multipliers towards the most vulnerable communities... At the end of the panel, we would offer ways in which participants can support vulnerable communities during this pandemic."
ICYMI: (In case you missed it...) Tiffany Lin, First Church Social Justice Co-Chair and member of Standing Committee, and Ministerial Intern Daniel Lawlor would like to share a special Youtube interview withGreta Hagen, Development Director of UU Urban Ministryin Roxbury. Learn more about the work of UU Urban Ministry to support domestic abuse survivors, young adults and community empowerment.
Firstchurchboston.org is the congregation's website and information is posted daily. Emails are being sent out daily with news and information about upcoming online worship services and other tidbits. Email church administrator Julianna Dunn here, if you want to be on email list and have not signed up yet. First Church Boston is also on Facebook and Instagram. It is lonely over there on Instagram, we just jumped back onto Insta, so please come on over and "like".
First Church recently purchased a Zoom license. If you have a committee meeting that needs to happen remotely, email Julianna to request the time and license number to schedule. We are also hoping to find a few volunteers to host a Zoom coffee hour.

Several generous members of our church have given the Minister's Fund a great boost, to the point that we are establishing a special First Church Outreach Fund to assist our members during the next several months.
If you are in need of assistance, please be in touch. I am happy to let you know that this help exists, and can be readily drawn on. I will be the only member of First Church to know of any request or assistance--just me. I think it's important to insure confidentiality, and good trust. So write or give me a call if we can help--this is precisely what our donors hope and gave to this fund for.
