Welcome to the A3L

monthly newsletter.
We are very excited to have you as one our "regular" customers.

A3L is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation based in Old Fort, NC
boasting over 70 members strong.

The Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League (A3L) is dedicated to promoting the arts in the Old Fort and surrounding communities, providing education in the arts to the citizens and visitors of Old Fort; ensuring local artist and artisans have opportunities to display their skills and work; and preserving the art of the area for future generations.

One of A3L’s important tools to meet its mission is the
Arrowhead Gallery and Studios (AGS),
featuring over 30 local artisans.

We hope you will join us soon to see new creative works or attend one of the upcoming events or classes.

President’s Note
December 2018

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of our A3L friends both near and far. Whichever December holiday(s) you celebrate, we hope they are safe and joyous.

Wow! Another year has come and is almost gone.
So much has changed but a lot of the good things have remained. The Arrowhead Gallery is still full of wonderful art and fine crafts. We’ve welcomed new artists and artisans and upped the overall quality of the work in Gallery. We also marked the Gallery’s five year
anniversary.
We held our first ever art show for the McDowell County High School art club, in partnership with the Friends of the Mountain Gateway Museum and the Museum. We’ll be holding another in January 2019.
We also continued the tradition of hosting an art show for the Old Fort Elementary School art program.

We added another mural to the Town of Old Fort. This one depicts the North
Carolina gold trail. It has joined several of the other A3L murals on the
Appalachian Mural Trail, a virtual trail that stretches from Asheville to the Coast
of North Carolina. That brings us up to ten.

We hosted numerous workshops throughout the year, including some first ever workshops, thanks to the hard work of education coordinator Lorelle Bacon. Next year A3L member Liz Meyer will join Lorelle in coordinating the education program.

We held our first book reading and signing, hosting author and sculptor Henry
Harvey and his wife Pamela. Henry told us a bit about his life and Pamela read
a section from Henry’s book “The F**k It List.” This book is a humorous and
thoughtful look at how we chose to live the last third of our lives.
We’ve expanded the scope of our Gallery offerings to include a section showcasing a number of Henry’s books. I personally have enjoyed reading several of them. We hope to host a second reading and signing of another of Henry’s books in early 2019.

This year, we lost one of our pottery teachers, Dori English, but for the best of
reasons. She quit to accept an opportunity to expand her horizons in her chosen profession. The opportunity was too good for her to pass up. Best wishes Dori.

Of course, there is lots more, but that’s enough for now.

As we move into 2019 the officers and members of A3L wish each one of you the happiest and safest of New Years,

Helen Sullivan
President,
Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League
