Offers of gifts and hospitality
As the festive season approaches, in accordance with the NHS North East London Integrated Care Board (ICB) Standards of Business Conduct and Conflicts of Interest Policy, NHS North East London staff are unable to accept offers of gifts, hospitality or sponsorship from practice staff, regardless of the monetary value.
Whilst these gestures are kind, please do not send or offer any gifts to our staff as they will be obliged to return them.

iPLATO to support NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme
NHS England has commissioned iPlato to support centralised text message and letter approach to support referrals of patients with pre-diabetes/non-diabetic hyperglycaemia (test recorded within 12 months) or a history of gestational diabetes to NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. To participate, practices are required to ‘opt-in’ by signing the relevant data sharing agreement.

Who's in charge? Safer sleeping with babies campaign
“Who’s in Charge?” is a response to the latest figures published by the UK government, showing that babies dying suddenly and unexpectedly represent one of the largest groups of cases notified to a national child safeguarding panel.
The NHS is running the "Who's in Charge?" campaign through the festive period to promote safer sleeping with babies. There are video links below that can be shown in your GP surgery.

NHS Digital's easy-to-use data
Since Thursday 24 November 2022, NHS Digital has started publishing easy-to-use data showing how many appointments each practice in England is delivering and how long people wait between booking an appointment and receiving one. An analysis of what this data shows is here.

London breast screening recovery programme
The Breast Screening Recovery Programme is launching a Community of Practice to promote knowledge-sharing and networking among breast screening stakeholders. This includes, but is not limited to, primary care, women’s health, cancer screening and health inequalities. The event will take place on Tuesday 13 December 2022, 1-2pm.

Supply issue for Lipitor® and Estraderm MX®
A Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP039) has been issued for Atorvastatin (Lipitor®) 20mg chewable tablets. The SSP came into effect on 23 November 2022 and is currently due to expire on 23 December 2022. Should this change, the SSP will be updated accordingly and published on the BSA web page.
A medicine supply notification is in effect for estradiol (Estraderm MX®) 25micrograms/24hours, 75micrograms/24hours and 100micrograms/24hours transdermal patches.

NHS OpenAthens is the single username and password system that is used in the NHS to support clinical and non-clinical staff to access high quality online resources (including ebooks, ejournals, study aids, databases of clinical management and social policy information and more). All Primary Care staff in North East London are eligible for an NHS OpenAthens account. It is quick and easy to register and shouldn't take up more than three minutes of your time. REMINDER: Changes to the Controlled Drug Reporting Website
The Controlled Drug Reporting website will change on Thursday 1 December 2022 and from this date there will be several changes.
From this date, you will need to register as a new user before completing reports. If you use the same registration email address, you will have access to reports you have previously submitted. If you need to change your registration email address, but still require access to previous reports, please email the Technical helpdesk team with your current email registration, email address and the updated email address.
This guidance provides information regarding how to register and add multiple organisations to your account. This can also be found online along with other training resources including video tutorials.

C&H Health Inequalities Summit - Wednesday 11 January 2023

The City and Hackney Inequalities Summit will take place on Wednesday 11 January 2023, 6-8.30 pm at St Joseph’s Hospice (Mare Street, E8 4SA).
The aim of the summit is to bring together delegates working on inequalities and with grassroots and frontline practitioners to showcase work being done to tackle health inequalities in health and wellbeing across City and Hackney. In addition to showcasing this work, the summit will uncover gaps, identify opportunities for better alignment or increased impact(s) and continue to foster unified and enthusiastic working across our local system.

Great Smog event - Wednesday 7 December 2022
Asthma + Lung UK will be commemorating the 70th anniversary of the great smog on Wednesday 7 December 2022 from 3-5pm. It will take place at the Cinema Museum in Kennington. There will be some short films a talk by Malcolm Green and Frank Kelly about air quality in London then and now, as well as a panel discussion about the future to conclude.

Demonstrating HelpFall - Wednesday 7 December 2022
HelpFall, which was outlined in the NHSE winter resilience plans, is the digital post-falls, decision-making and reporting tool that supports care staff to safely assess a person who has fallen, and helps them decide whether to lift or assist them from the floor using safe manual handling techniques and equipment.
Since launched a few weeks ago, there have been questions on the technique. Join a webinar, hosted by Felgians, on Wednesday 7 December 2022 at 12pm to see a live demonstration of HelpFall and answer common questions.

Long Covid survey for City & Hackney residents
City & Hackney COVID Rehabilitation (CoRe) Service is asking those who have been suffering with Long Covid symptoms for weeks or months to complete a survey. Responses will provide valuable information to help understand where there is a need for further support and plan better health services for all residents living in City & Hackney. As a token of thanks, CoRe will offer entry into a prize draw for the chance to win a £50, £25 or £10 store voucher.
For those residents who want to share more detailed accounts of their experiences with Long Covid, a focus group will be set up where everyone who takes part will be eligible for a £20 store voucher. The focus group will take place online or in person, depending on your preference.

Air pollution resources to support children with asthma
Air pollution can be damaging to everyone’s health, especially for children with asthma. Air pollution resources, including a stop smoking support letter for households who smoke and a housing support letter for those children with asthma in poor housing, are now available on your GP system and the NHS North East London website.
The aim is to provide the tools to talk to families about the impacts of air pollution and support children with respiratory conditions to help reduce their exposure to air pollution. View the toolkit here.
