We will also be having an in-person gathering to say "thank you!"  First, the virtual event will take place on Thursday 2 February 2023, 4.30pm-5.15pm. Join us by visiting this link.
Next, if you are in need of some face-to-face contact, join us at Brewdog Kitchen in Hoxton (397-400 Geffrye St, London E2 8HZ) - next to the Hoxton Overground Station - from 5.30pm-ish.

If you have any questions, please contact C&H Clinical Director Dr Stephanie Coughlin.

Opportunistic flu vaccinations data

Due to higher rates of influenza-like illness, some parents of school-aged children might request opportunistic flu vaccination when attending practices.

Practices are not expected to provide flu vaccinations to healthy school-aged children, who do not fall into a clinical-at-risk group. School-aged immunisation services are responsible for providing flu vaccinations to children up to year 9.

However, on the rare occasion that the practice does provide a flu vaccination to a healthy school-aged child, please advise the relevant school-aged provider of vaccination.  The contact details for school-aged immunisation services (SAIS) are below.  Read more.

REMINDER: City & Hackney Long Covid Deep Dive Survey - GP Responses Needed

City & Hackney Covid Rehabilitation (CoRe) Service is sending a reminder to all GPs to provide responses on this Long Covid deep dive survey. Please see below:

City & Hackney Covid Rehabilitation (CoRe) Service would like to know the experience of GPs who help C&H residents gain a better understanding of where further support may be needed to assist with their Long Covid symptoms.

Please email CoRe at HUH-tr.candhcore@nhs.net with the responses to the following questions:

1)      What has been your experience in managing patients who have reported Long Covid symptoms?  Think about the referral process for the Long Covid pathway in City & Hackney and what resources were available to you with regards to information on Long Covid, the Long Covid pathway and management of Long Covid patients.

2)      Have you accessed or been made aware of the information videos on the Long Covid services across North East London and NEL Community of Practice Resources?

If you have any questions, please email HUH-tr.candhcore@nhs.net.

Freedom to Speak Up in NEL Primary Care - please support

As part of NEL Integrated Care System, NEL Training Hub is committed to establishing an open culture where primary care colleagues are able to raise concerns in an environment that values differences and inclusivity in thinking and decision making.

To achieve this ambition, the following active steps are being taken:
  • Develop a speaking up culture within NEL Primary Care
  • Establish a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian Service (FTSU) that is accessible to all staff groups within primary care (includes dentistry, optometry and pharmacy)
The goal is to work in a partnership to develop and establish an open culture, that is safe and inclusive for all.  Please support the NEL Power to Speak Up Programme.

General practice staff workshops on CPCS

A referral process from a General Practice to a Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) has been developed and rolled out successfully both nationally and within NEL.  This will assist GPs to create additional capacity giving them more time and focus to see patients who would otherwise be required to wait longer for appointments.  This referral process will also enable pharmacists to utilise their skills and knowledge to further serve the community instead of booking a GP appointment for a minor illness assessment.

Dates of the training are Tuesday 21 February (10am-12pm) and Tuesday 21 March 2023 (1-3pm).  Find out more information and how to register here.

RSM alert 36-22/23 update to fake supplier scam targeting GP practices

Further to the alert 30-22/23 which shared details of a fake consumables supplier, the counter fraud provider has alerted us to a new company targeting GP practices invoicing for consumables (such as printer ink) that have not been purchased.

Any invoices received from B&B Office Suppliers should be thoroughly checked before any payment is made. The scammers claim to have acquired stationery firms and their outstanding invoices, but have provided no details of the former companies and there is no knowledge of purchases of the consumables. The fraudsters operating these offences often threaten criminal or civil enforcement action to intimidate practices to pay.

Findings of survey of NEL Care Homes seeks feedback

All Healthwatch organisations in North East London have delivered this survey, which provides insight into GP services in each of the eight boroughs in the ICB, provided to Care Home residents through the PCN DES/supplementary service.  This project was commissioned by the former NEL CCG.  Please see the summarised findings of a survey conducted across 174 Care Homes across North East London in June 2022.

The report includes a conclusion and recommendations, where Healthwatch would value any feedback. To do so, please contact Dawn Hobson, Project Officer, Healthwatch Redbridge on 020 8553 1236 or dawn@healthwatchredbridge.co.uk.
Dawn can also provide data from your borough, if requested.

IAPT Services now called NHS Talking Therapies

new name for IAPT services has been chosen and approved. Following an in-depth analysis of the feedback, the national NHS England and Health Education England mental health teams have announced that a new name for IAPT services has been chosen and approved: NHS Talking Therapies.

Thank you to all colleagues who took part in the online survey conducted late last year.

Helping people in cold homes e-learning module

NHS Health Education England has developed an e-learning module to help people whose health is affected by living in a cold home. It supports health and social care professionals to put NICE Guidance NG6 ‘Excess winter deaths and illness and the health risks associated with cold homes’ into practice.

This e-learning module is only 25 minutes.  It is suitable for staff who visit patients, service users or customers in their homes.  Having completed MECC (Making Every Contact Count) training would be an advantage, but not essential.
