North East London leading the way on polio vaccines
Please see a message from Zina Etheridge, Chief Executive Officer NHS NEL
I’m pleased to say that more than 66,000 children have been vaccinated in north east London, which is 30% of our eligible population and more than any other part of the capital.
I know it wasn’t easy at such short notice and with so many other pressures, so I wanted to take this opportunity to say on behalf of our residents, a heartfelt thank you and well done.
There is more work to do to ensure we continue to reach children from all parts of north east London, and I know conversations are taking place locally about how to manage this.
One thing that all of us can continue to do is to discuss vaccinations in conversations we have with parents. It's important to remember that every contact counts – many of you have conversations with parents on a daily basis, and as trusted voices in our local communities, we are uniquely placed to make a difference.
Thanks again for all that you do.

ESEL pathology partnership update in microbiology
It has been some months since the consolidation of the microbiology laboratories at Homerton Healthcare and Barts Health NHS Trust (East and South East London; ESEL).
Part of the consolidation process has included the establishment of an ‘alignment group’; a group of microbiology scientists and clinicians tasked with reviewing and updating laboratory practice across the partnership.
The alignment group have recently made several recommendations about changes to microbiology diagnostic practice, which are important for colleagues in primary care to be aware of – these are summarised in this document.

The Controlled Drug reporting website has undergone a review and development process and, as a result, the website has been upgraded and some of the reporting modules have been re-designed or modified based on comments from users and to make the reporting modules compatible with other national reporting systems.
