Update on polio vaccines; cold storage of the vaccine


The polio page on the GP intranet has recently been updated.  Please check this page regularly for updates and FAQ.
 
Co-administration
There have been enquiries about co-administration of the current polio vaccines with MMR vaccines; in principle this is possible and is encouraged.  Read more about this and cold chain management of polio vaccines.

Polio letter for unregistered children


Please find the letter that will be sent to unregistered children via Child Health Information Service (CHIS), which includes information on how to access a polio vaccine in North East London.

Trauma Informed Care - TODAY at 1PM


Today, Wednesday 21 September 2022, 1-3pm, learn what trauma informed care is and how this introduction can help your relations with patients be more effective. 

*This event will make up the other two hours of the compulsory four hours annual Mental Health training under the Primary Care contract for each practice to attend*

Optimising imaging requesting from primary care for management of shoulder conditions - 30 September


On Friday 30 September 2022, 1-2pm, the session entitled "Optimising imaging requesting from primary care for management of shoulder conditions," will provide a better understanding of which imaging is appropriate pre-referral to locomotor service or orthopaedics.  The speakers for this event will be Sue Rowe, Marie Tanner and Tobias Barin. REMINDER: Opioids in chronic pain survey - due TODAY


NHSE/I has commissioned the Academic Health Science Networks to support NEL ICS to implement a system-wide approach to reduce the use of opioids for chronic non-cancer pain.

In order to guide this work, please complete the following survey and share with your PCN colleagues (including GPs, pharmacists, nurses, physios). The survey should take no more than 5 minutes to complete by  Wednesday 21 September 2022.

Reminder: Seasonal Flu 2022-23 and Childhood Flu 2022-23 services


The 2022/23 Seasonal Flu and Child Flu service offers were released on Friday 2 September 2022 and can now be accepted by practices.

The North East London Asthma nurses are organising bitesize teaching sessions around paediatric asthma.  The first one will take place on Thursday 22 September 2022.

NEL Programmes - new clinical lead roles


NEL Programme roles listed here will be advertised on NHS Jobs from this week forward.

For further information about the roles, number of sessions available and role descriptions, please look out for the advert on NHS jobs.
 
You will have received a letter confirming that your current clinical lead role is extended until 22 December 2022 and will end on this date. The current roles will not be extended, but instead will be replaced with the new NEL programme roles listed above. You are encouraged to apply for the new roles listed, if interested.

Medicine Supply Notification for various products


Please find a Medicine Supply Notification for the following: DHSC and NHSE/I have now launched an online Medicines Supply Tool, which provides up to date information about medicine supply issues. The contents of this MSN can now be viewed on the Tool.
 
The Tool also details any changes to resupply dates and updates to the entries. To access the Tool you will be required to register with the SPS website.

Serious Shortage Protocols - Estraderm MX® 25mcg and 100mcg patches


The Serious Shortage Protocols currently in effect for Estraderm MX® 25 microgram and 100 microgram patches are being varied to extend the end date, which was previously Friday 16 September 2022.
 
The end date for SSPs 035 and 036 will now be 23 September 2022.

Spirometry Data Request


As part of the ongoing work of developing Spirometry Hublets in City and Hackney, there is a look to estimate the demand for diagnostic spirometry in each practice so as to correctly model the resource capacity required to deliver spirometry in primary care. 
 
Please advise your practice the following:
  • The number of people currently waiting diagnostic spirometry in your practice (with suspected asthma or COPD)
  • Estimate of annual diagnostic spirometry demand in your practice. 
Responses should be sent to Vivien.Molulu1@nhs.net by 5pm on Thursday 6 October 2022.

Practice Accelerated Improvement Programme - October tranche

Details of the national Practice Accelerated Improvement Programme due to start in October 2022 are here, along with the FAQs.

Some of the ways your practice could benefit from the programme are outlined below:

  • Opportunity to invest in your practice
  • Can really help to support you with this year’s QOF QI Indicator on using QI techniques to improve access
  • Opportunity to address current challenges – demand and capacity
  • Provision of hands on support - AIP delivery partners support with coding data
  • An engagement & completion fee is available (which can be used for backfill)
Practices can sign up to a webinar to learn more about the programme. There is one link for all the webinars: Accelerate Phase IV Introductory Webinar Registration Form. In order to participate, please register to a webinar.  Practices have until Friday 14 October 2022 to sign up for the programme. 
 

Adult ADHD service referral changes


There is a new referral form for adult ADHD, which is in two parts, as the second form must be completed by the patient.  Read more.

Understanding disordered eating in adults

North East London is offering a new three-hour course providing an introduction to disordered eating in adults, aiming to increase awareness and understanding.  The dates are Thursday 29 September and Thursday 11 October 2022.

The course is open to all health and social care, and wider public sector workforce in North East London. Limited numbers apply early.
