IVF and Fertility Referrals to Homerton Hospital

When referring to the Fertility Centre at Homerton Healthcare Trust, please use the specified referral form (below) which can be found via:

  • CEG EMIS reference library under -  RP GP referral form Infertility including Semen Analysis v4.
  • A word version can also be found on the GP website

Please also note that after a clinical review, the Infertility Referral Form has been amended and now includes a new mandatory field, which requires the genetic history of the patient and partner. Please complete this section when referring your patients. Referrals without the completed form will not be accepted.

Urgent Care Plan launches today - All You Need to Know

After months of planning, the Urgent Care Plan (UCP) launches today (Wednesday, 27 July 2022). It has replaced the CMC service.  UCP will enable every Londoner to have their care and support wishes digitally shared with healthcare professionals across the capital.

There are various links in this document that can be used to register for the UCP Roadshows, obtain more information on access, training and understanding more about the programme with live virtual drop-in sessions via Teams (Go-Live virtual Floor Walkers). In addition, view the website for more information.

Medicine Supply Notifications 

1. Vacutainer Holders-disposable white (KFK037) has been suspended due to supplier shortages. It is anticipated that supply will resume by September.  Alternatives will be distributed as equitably as possible.

2. Combisal® (Fluticasone 125microgram / Salmeterol 25microgram) pressurised metered dose inhaler (pMDI).  The SSP will enable community pharmacists in England and Wales to supply patients with Fluticasone 125microgram/Salmeterol 25microgram pressurised metered dose inhaler (pMDI).

The SSP is now available to view on the NHS Business Service Authority (BSA)’s dedicated SSP web page, along with supporting guidance. The SSP came into effect on Friday, 22 July 2022 and is currently due to expire on Friday, 19 August 2022.  For any questions, please contact the NHS Prescription Service.

NEL Safeguarding Local Incentive Scheme 2021-2023

Following on from emails confirming the start of the NEL Safeguarding GP LIS from February 2022, there has been an update to the Local Incentive Scheme (LIS) to reflect the changes in the organisation and also the on-line sign-up link which closed at the end of March 2022.

Please find the NEL Safeguarding GP LIS updated specification and quarterly claim form. If you have not yet signed up to this LIS, there is a manual sign-up form, which can be completed and returned to


Podcast on Racial Discrimination in Primary Care

Following the results of the pan-London Racism and Discrimination Survey in Primary Care, there was a discussion of racial discrimination on a podcast.
There are two episodes (5 & 6) focusing on Racial Discrimination in Primary Care, which are hosted by Munir Ali-Zubair with guests including Navina Evans, Naureen Bhatti, Jonathan Sampson, Sarah Swinfin and Carrianne Green.


Updated Patient Group Directions (PGDs) for Hib Men C

NHS England - London has published an updated Patient Group Directions (PGDs) on its website.  The updated PGD is: NHSE Haemophilus influenzae type b and meningococcal C conjugate vaccine (Hib/Men C) PGD v05.00.

Practices should ensure that any registered healthcare professional who is due to administer vaccinations under this PGD be made aware of this updated versions.

National Staff Survey for GP-Teams Research Study

Practices are invited to take part in a national survey of staff working in general practices. The purpose of the research is to explore how the composition of the workforce in general practices and the working relationships among team members affects the quality of care and health outcomes for patients. The national survey of practice staff is exploring team climate and staff wellbeing in practices.

You will not be asked to provide your name, so your responses will not be identifiable. Your responses will be linked to your practice by your practice ID (the practice ODS code).

South West London ICT Shared Service - Data Processing Terms

NEL Commissioning Support Unit (NEL CSU) ceased to operate from 1st July 2022. NHS England and Improvement has disaggregated the services previously being provided by NEL CSU and has engaged South West London ICB (SWL) to act as host for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services to various customers.

Zyban® (bupropion) available to Smokefree service users

The Joint Prescribing Group (JPG) for City and Hackney/Homerton has recommended for Zyban® to be made available to City and Hackney Smokefree service users as a last line therapy for smoking cessation (in the absence of Champix® supply).
From Monday, 1 August 2022, Zyban® will become one of the stop smoking medications available to people signed up to quit with the local stop smoking service. GP practices in City and Hackney will be able to prescribe Zyban® following advice from a Smokefree advisor.


Free evidence search service

NEL Primary Care Knowledge Specialist can conduct free evidence searches to assist you. The service provides expert searches to inform:

  • patient care
  • clinical teaching
  • service improvement
  • project
  • CPD 

To request a search, login to KnowledgeShare with your OpenAthens username and password and click on ‘Evidence’→ then ‘Request an Evidence Search’. Then fill in the online form. 
If you do not currently have an Open Athens account, you can self-register.  Choose ‘North East London CCG, GPs and Practice Staff’ as your organisation.
Please note that a minimum of 10 working days is required for a full search service. Deadlines may need to be negotiated during periods of high demand. We ask for acknowledgement of our search support in any resulting published papers or presentations.

Vaccination UK catch up clinics - summer and beyond

The Vaccination UK catch-up clinic dates over the summer and beyond have been relased to support the polio catch up. Vaccination UK have also arranged for posters to be shared with public health colleagues to support promotion.  Dates are also shared on their website.

The Big Half Marathon to support Ability Bow

At Ability Bow, there are limited number of charity places on offer for The Big Half marathon on Sunday, 4 September 2022.  Ability Bow supports people with disabilities or life-changing health conditions to exercise.  All the money raised by fundraising events goes towards providing the exercise service to more people who need it.  
The Big Half is a spectacular 13.1 miles route starting at Tower Bridge and ending at Greenwich Park with a festival atmosphere. 
To claim a place, you only have to pledge at least £150 in sponsorships to help the most vulnerable communities keep fitter and stronger, for longer.  Please contact Victoria Kent for more information.
