Incorrect eGFR values reported by Pathology for samples received from City and Hackney GPs ~ 29/10/21 to 01/11/21
(since corrected)

Barts Health Pathology underwent a major upgrade of all core Pathology IT systems on 29/10/21. The system supplier amended the CKD-EPI eGFR calculation syntax during this, but neglected to confirm that those values were accurate. As a consequence, eGFR results were reported that were erroneously higher than the true result.
The calculation was corrected ~16:00 01/11/21. We have identified 266 reports that received inaccurate eGFRs and amended them individually, to ensure the correct value is now reported. We included the below additional ‘Automated Chemistry comment’:
PLEASE NOTE: This is an AMENDED REPORT. The original CKD-EPI result released for this sample was erroneously high. Apologies for this.
In case we have not identified every affected result, please check that eGFR results during this time window (samples sent 28/10/21 to 01/11/21 inclusive) are consistent with previous and/or with the serum creatinine. If a list of your practice’s affected patients would be helpful, please feel free to contact James Ingram.

Excellent QOF results in North East London

Results for the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) 1 April 2020 – 31 March 2021 have been released by NHS Digital.
They show North East London either top or second in London for many key clinical indicators, with diabetes statin use and blood pressure control being exceptionally good. This is a huge credit to practices across the region, especially during an incredibly challenging year.
Clinical Effectiveness Group (CEG) health data analysts are conducting an in-depth analysis, which will be shared with practices and commissioners in the coming weeks.

NHS London Breast Screening Recruitment Campaign

Breast screening mammographers play a vital part in NHS London’s cancer services, and help to detect cancer in approximately 9 in every 1,000 women who are screened. Screening can help to find breast cancers early, when they are too small to see or feel and usually easier to treat.
NEL is recruiting qualified mammographers, radiographers looking to specialise, and trainees to join breast screening staff and patients working together to save lives.
Mammography is a rewarding NHS career, working directly with patients to help ensure we continue to detect early signs of cancer. There are flexible working opportunities in a range of NHS organisations across London, with opportunities for real career progression.
