Local MGUS Guidance due to changes in Pathology

Due to concerns and queries raised, the Homerton team has compiled interim guidance for interpreting FLC results linked here.

If you have any queries or need further advice and guidance,  please email Homerton Haematology.

You can find the guidance on the Pathology page under the Downloads section.

Issue identified: Test results sporadically absent from reports to GPs

An issue entailing individual test results being sporadically absent from reports to GPs has been identified following our recent Pathology software upgrades (30/10/21). Barts Health NHS Trust is working with its software suppliers to identify, quantify and resolve the issue as a top priority.

Though the tests affected seem random/inconsistent between reports, the issue currently blocks Barts Health NHS Trust from resending these electronically on any given report. Until this is resolved, results can be searched in Cerner (East London Patient Record/Health Information Exchange) or Cyberlab, if you have access. Where a whole report is missing (i.e. you do not have a partial-report) this is likely to be a separate issue that we may be able to resolve immediately.  Please contact bhnt.pathologyit@nhs.net.

Barts Health NHS Trust is very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and hopes to have it resolved within the next few days. It does not regard this type of issue to be acceptable or typical.

DHSC and NHSE/I have now launched an online Medicines Supply Tool, which provides up to date information about medicine supply issues. The contents of these MSNs can now be viewed on the Tool. To access the Tool you will be required to register with the SPS website.

There have also been changes to the resupply dates of the medicines listed below. These communications were previously circulated via the NHSE&I commissioning routes.
Resupply dates
Please be aware this communication is also being circulated separately to all community pharmacies in England.

Please note that for supply issues that have been categorised as tier 1 or 2, DHSC and the MSRG have requested that the NHSE&I commissioning routes are used to reach community pharmacy and GP practices. More serious supply issues are communicated via the Central Alerting System for action.

If you have any queries please contact DHSCmedicinesupplyteam@dhsc.gov.uk

Please note, if the enquiry relates to any changes (additions or removals) to the mailing list and you are enquiring from a GP practice, please contact the NHSE&I Head of Primary Care commissioning.

Interested to participate in a Primary Care Patient Safety Focus Group?

Edmund Li, a PhD candidate, is conducting a research study to identify patient safety risks associated with video and telephone consultations in primary care. He is looking to recruit GPs, pharmacists, and nurses in primary care to provide their insight and perspective on this research subject.

Should you agree to take part, you will be participating in a focus group lasting around 60 minutes via an online teleconferencing medium such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom. In the focus groups, you will be invited to discuss your experience using virtual consultations in primary care, any safety risks/incidents that you have encountered, and potential approaches you feel can help prevent and resolve these risks in practice.

More information is provided in the participant information sheet. The study has been approved by the Research Governance and Integrity Team (ICREC) at Imperial College London.

There is a choice of dates for the first set of focus groups:
  • Wednesday, 1st December 5-6PM
  • Thursday, 2nd December 10-11AM
if you would be interested in taking part and if you have any questions, contact Edmund Li.
