Falkland House School is a residential school for boys of all ages who have Additional Support Needs and who find it difficult to cope in a mainstream educational environment. We offer day, 39 and 52 week provision.
Residential trip to the Compass Centre

On Monday 22nd April, Brodie, Connor, Harris, Jamie, Luca and Shaun headed off on a three-day residential trip to the Compass Centre in Glenshee.

After an introduction by staff at the centre, the boys spent the first evening settling in and playing the card game ‘Loot’, which has become something of a tradition on trips away from school.

Day one started off with raft building. The boys were given some tips on how to design and build a raft. then they were split into two teams.

While Mr Gannon’s raft (built by Brodie, Shaun and Jamie) sat perfectly on the water, Mr Robertson’s didn’t stand up to the test and collapsed almost immediately.

So as well as taking part in a great team building activity, Luca, Harris and Connor had the opportunity to put their problem solving skills to the test, and it wasn't long before they had the raft shipshape.

2019 Chess Tournament
The Final of the 2019 Chess Tournament took place on Thursday 6th June.

The two finalists, Bradley and Cameron, had played incredibly well throughout the tournament and fully deserved a shot at victory.

It turned out to be the final everyone was hoping for, with both boys very focused and playing creatively. Bradley won the first game, putting Cameron in checkmate after a long battle, but Cameron bounced back strongly in the second game, forcing a decider..
The final game of the tournament could have gone either way. But after an hour of tension, it was Cameron who managed to hold his nerve and come out victorious after a riveting battle.

So our congratulations go to Cameron, whose name goes on the trophy for the first time, and our commiserations to Bradley who was  consistently excellent throughout the tournament.
Wellness Wednesday & Thirsty Thursday
Bradley, Ryan and Kyle, the school's Promoting Healthy Living Group, did a great job organizing 'Wellness Wednesday' and 'Thirsty Thursday' recently.

Their objective was to tempt their fellow classmates into trying a variety of fruits they wouldn't normally eat. And their peers did just that, with great curiosity and enthusiasm too.

Passion fruit and blood orange turned out to be the favourites, while persimmon caused the biggest debate over whether they liked it or not. Surprisingly the rhubarb went down well too despite it being served without sugar.
On 'Thirsty Thursday' the boys were shown how to use the leftover fruit to create a delicious sweet smoothie - with strictly no added sugar of course!
A blender has been put in each house in the hope that this will encourage the boys to eat and enjoy more fruit and vegetables.
Celebrating Success Day

At Falkland House School we celebrate every success, no matter how small.

At the end of the school year, we hold a Celebrating Success ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate each pupil's individual achievements over the past year

The list of achievements was, as always, a long one. recognising not only academic accomplishments and sporting victories, new skills learned and targets reached, but also the hard work, attitude, motivation and persistence the pupils have shown in class and in the broader FHS community.

Well done boys! Keep up the good work.

Good Citizen Award
Congratulations to Jamie, the winner of this year's 'Good Citizen Award'.

North East Fife PCs Euan and Phil presented Jamie with the shield during our Celebrating Success ceremony.

Jamie joined Falkland House School fairly recently. In this short time, he has impressed staff and pupils alike with his good nature, his courteous manner and his affability, not to mention his enormous enthusiasm and determination to do well.

Here is an excerpt from Mr Storrie's speech explaining the reasons behind the decision to give the award to Jamie this year.

Wishing Aaron, Hugh, Kieran & Lewis every success

This year four young men are transitioning from Falkland House School and taking their first steps into independent living and adult life.

At our Celebrating Success ceremony, three of them - Aaron, Hugh and Kieran - were presented with a USB stick containing lots of memories and a record of all their accomplishments - academic and other - over the years they've spent at FHS.

Throughout the last year, the boys have been planning and preparing for this pivotal time in their lives. All four are moving on to further study or employment: Aaron is moving to his own accommodation in the Fife area and will attend a Cookery Course at Fife College,

Hugh is hoping to take up a modern apprenticeship in car mechanics, Kieran will be working wth the PUSH agency in Perth, and Lewis is moving to Perth to continue his musical studies at the University of the Highlands & Islands.

We hope they'll take advantage of our open door policy should they need any support or advice, and will come back to visit to update us on their future achievements.

Stuart Jacob retired from his position as Director at the end of June after more than 30 years at Falkland House School. Staff and pupils wish Stuart all the best in his future endeavours.

Our congratulations to Kenny Graham, Head of Education at FHS for the last four years, who has taken over the helm as Principal.

Thanks to everyone who has worked with and supported the school over the last year.

Happy summer holidays!
