Stand Up! for emotional health & wellbeing update
Anne Woods (right), the Participation Officer managing this project, giving a presentation to the Confidence & Equality Group of Dyfed Powys Police in July.
The next Stand Up! for emotional health & wellbeing meeting will take place in Welshpool in early Autumn, date TBC.

This will be an opportunity for members of the public who have been in contact with services, and those close to them, to come together to meet professionals and discuss the way that mental health care is provided in Powys. You can find out more about the  project here.

We are pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of the groups to work with The Iris Prize - an international LGBT+ film festival based in Cardiff. Iris in the Community is Big Lottery funded to work with communities across Wales to raise awareness of issues faced by LGBT+ people. More here.

Please contact Anne Woods for full details and to register to attend meetings by ringing 01597 822191 or emailing:

7 October, Wedding Room, Ystradgynlais Library, 10.30am - 12.30pm

The perfect opportunity for people to get together and offer constructive criticism about mental health services in Powys. These views and opinions will be used to help shape future services.
You can watch a video from the first Coffee Moaning,

The work of the individual reps is vital to our team. Kate, Rhydian and Meriel, centre in photo above, are the current reps. We work very closely with them to help shape future Powys Mental Health Services.

Would you be interested in joining them to take grass-root views and opinions to local board meetings where service providers can find out what is working and what needs to change? PAVO is offering a generous training package plus travel expense reimbursement for anyone wishing to participate. For more info please ring 01597 822191 or email

When Carla is not working for PAVO she juggles various other hats. One of her other roles in Powys is as a Mental Health Act Manager at Phoenix House Mental Health Hospital in Welshpool, North Powys. We interviewed Carla recently for our blog to find out more about both this, and her PAVO participation work.

Powys Patients Council

Philip Moisson, who is currently facilitating the Patients' Council meetings, updates us about recent meetings:

The ward is currently fairly quiet, but we held our meeting and had a few discussions with some patients. One of these patients is a young person who we have seen several times, and they're now preparing for a new start in a new location and can be seen as full of happiness and positive expectations for life once more.....  Read more here.

If you would like to volunteer for Powys Patients' Council please contact Jane Cooke, tel: 01597 822191, or email
