The Elephant in the Room:
A typical day in the office for the PAVO mental health team!

Elephants - usually being taken out of the room - are a commonly used symbol for mental health campaigns. Various amazing elephants have been sculpted, paraded and autographed, for example by the mental health charity Mind and the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust.

Here in Powys we also want to reduce the stigma associated with mental distress, whilst having some fun at the same time! Carla dressed up as our "elephant in the room" to help encourage people to talk about their mental health and in particular to give feedback to the providers of mental health services in our county. If you have a story to tell - elephants, mental health, Powys services, or a mixture of all these things, then please get in touch.

There are still some Individual Rep vacancies too. If you want to play a key part in making decisions about Mental Health Services in Powys and Nationally, and feel you could forward the voice of people in contact with mental health services and those close to them, then contact Carla Rosenthal on the numbers above or by emailing:

Powys Patients' Council

Phil Moisson, the Patients' Council Facilitator, is on holiday, so this month's report is by Carla Rosenthal:

We had a lively Patients' Council meeting in September which prompted a patient to remark on the need for physical activities to be available on the ward. Although there is a list of equipment that can be used to organise outside games, some patients on observation cannot go out due to staff constraints. This highlighted the benefit of having a safe and secure outdoor area that enables patients to be able to move freely outside without the requirement of having a member of staff present....
