Wishing Carla Good Luck in her new role!
From the end of February, I shall be moving from the PAVO Mental Health Team and taking up a new role as Community Health and Well-being Coordinator for Knighton & Presteigne. Primarily, the job involves supporting people to access the right support, the first time, in the right way and to empower people to build their own networks of support within their community. However, I’m not entirely sure what a working week will look like, or even where I shall be based, but hope to find out more after my induction!
Having lived in Knighton for six years I’ve gotten to know the town and the people pretty well - partly due to having volunteered in the Furniture Barn some time ago but also as a parent and member of the community. I’ve started telling friends in town about the new job and it’s amazing how many people are already asking me for advice and information. At this point, I’m writing down contact details and sending them off to browse InfoEngine until I can provide more tailored support.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working as part of the Mental Health Team and despite changing roles, I’m currently busy helping to coordinate a week of events in Knighton to promote Mental Health Awareness Week (8th-14th May). There will be live music in the local pubs and information around different types of mental health issues, along with useful telephone numbers and websites to show people where and who to ask if they need help and support.
I’d like to thank my work colleagues in PAVO for making me feel so welcome and valued - especially as I’d never worked in this type of office based environment up until starting the job. We’ve had some really fun times in between all the hard work and, hopefully, the legend of the elephant ears will live on...
If anyone would like further information about the Knighton events, please contact me on
