Saturday Night's Guests:
Richie & Rosie

A banjo-fiddle duo might conjure images of low-key living room picking, of lazy summer back-yard vocals. But not when the two performers, while getting mellow for a track or two, can also rip into a tune that rollicks. Not when both deliver accomplished, passionate vocals.

Richie Stearns, legendary clawhammer player and band leader, here joins fiddler and singer Rosie Newton for a varied and sometimes high-energy excursion into old-time and Americana. The interplay of solos and backup and harmonies make for surprising depth. Those used to the multi-textured sounds of Richie Stearns’s Horse Flies won’t find any drop-off in dynamism or musical interest, even if the duo project relies heavily on straight-up banjo and fiddle. And Richie Stearns’s clawhammer drive and melodic up-the-neck technique complement the pair’s tight vocal harmonies. (from Banjo Newsletter)

Five Mile Mountain Road

A Franklin County, Virginia-based bluegrass, old time, and classic country band, Five Mile Mountain Road plays with an emphasis on music for dancing. With front man Billy Hurt sawing the fiddle, Five Mile Mountain Road is known throughout the region for superb dance tunes and world-class instrumentation. Seth Boyd (banjo & guitar), Brennen Ernst (guitar & banjo), and Steven Dowdy (upright bass) round out the group’s lineup. Named after one of Franklin County’s signature rural byways, the group is one of the best up and coming bands around.

Little River Missionary Baptist Church Choir

We hope to see you on Saturday at 7:30pm! And if you can't make it down in person, tune in HERE to listen to the show from wherever you are!
