At Fine Balance Yoga we teach therapeutic yoga classes to trauma survivors, teaching them healthy self-regulation strategies to empower them to live connected and embodied lives. We also train yoga teachers and clinicians in the trauma-informed yoga theory and techniques required to support their clients in their healing, long-term stability and recovery.

Beauty And The Brain: Five Ways Yoga Has Helped Heal My Brain Injury

By Quenby Schuyler Writer, Chef, Mother
One year ago at thirty-five years old, I suffered a Post-Partum Stroke. An Acute Subarachnoid Hemorrhage; otherwise known as a brain bleed. I lost my vision, left side function, and the ability to enjoy being alert and present with my brand new baby daughter. The months following my stroke I was hit with the aftershocks of PTSD, Anxiety, Post-Partum Depression, and general fear and loathing throughout my body.

Trauma-informed Yoga
for Youth in Conflict
with the Law

Yoga Outreach has received initial funding from the Department of Justice Canada to explore whether trauma-informed yoga could enhance health outcomes for drug treatment with justice involved youth. For the first phase of this project I'll be conducting an environmental scan of existing drug treatment programs for youth within BC.

Mindful Brain Yoga

Researchers at the University of British Columbia, Dr. William Panenka and Delrae Fawcett are creating an evidence-based yoga program tailored for individuals with a concussion. They have teamed up with yoga therapist Shivani Wells and STRETCH yoga studio to create, “Mindful Brain Yoga.” This study will examine how the body is engaged when practicing yoga, and align it to the symptoms associated with brain injury/concussion. I'm thrilled to be one of the yoga therapists asked to teach yoga intervention taking place this Summer/Fall.
