1. 2014 Fall Heritage Gathering

The Yukon heritage community will gather this year in fabulous Dawson City during the week of October 20-24th, 2014. The week will feature a variety of events, workshops and activities of interest to those engaged in the protection, conservation and celebration of our rich and diverse heritage. In addition to sharing new and best practices, this gathering provides an opportunity to meet others actively involved in museums and heritage conservation across the Territory. All members of the Yukon heritage community are invited to attend.

2. Culture Days & Doors Open - This weekend!

Each year, thousands of people participate in these two national initiatives, which encourage local residents to connect and celebrate with the people, places and activities that contribute to the vibrant arts, culture and heritage of their community.

There are over thirty free activities planned over the next three days in the Territory.

YHMA is hosting a Doors Open event: drop by our offices in the historic Donnenworth House (3126 Ave., Whitehorse) to say hello between 12-3pm on Saturday!

Be a tourist in your own town! Visit the Culture Days website for more information.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I highly recommend playing hookey tomorrow and checking out some of the sites only open on Friday, including the YG Paleontology and Archaeology lab, Tutshi Tanning, and a tour of the Legislative Assembly Chamber!

3. Cultural Labour Force Study

Yukon Department of Economic Development has partnered with the Yukon Arts Centre to conduct  a study of the cultural labour force in the Territory. This is a follow up to a similar study that was conducted in 2004. Stay tuned for more information as surveys and interviews will be conducted in the next few months.

5. N3Y - Yukon Arts Presenting Summit

The N3Y Summit will take place in Whitehorse, November 20th – 23rd, 2014.

This Summit will bring together administrators, board members, active volunteers and cultural workers whose work involves presenting arts and/or cultural events in their communities. There are many things we can learn from each other, and we hope this Summit will teach, network, invigorate and inspire you to continue the work that contributes so much to your community.
We are presenting some exciting speakers, and we will host a variety of learning opportunities through workshops and forums. Registration forms will be sent out very soon. This will include information on the rural subsidy that will enable participants to attend from communities outside Whitehorse.
We would appreciate your taking a few moments to fill out this short survey to help us plan the best learning opportunities for all participants. It should take about 5 minutes. Please feel free to pass along to anyone you think might be interested in attending this conference.
We would appreciate your responses by Wednesday, October 1st, 2014.
Please note: we are shaping the content of the conference based on your answers to this survey.
