A mother is a person who, seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.

This Sunday is Mother's Day!

For nearly 49 years, I've enjoyed the privilege and blessing of having a godly, generous, and great-hearted mother. We haven't always agreed on things and we've undoubtedly made each other a little crazy at times, but I've never doubted her love, her readiness to forgive, or her willingness to help. So this week I'm sending a little shout-out to my Mom Jessie (Hasmig in Armenian).

To the other mothers reading this newsletter: God bless you. Whether you're a new mom or a great-grandmother, thank you for making this world a warmer, safer, and softer place.

To those who, like me, are not mothers, whether by choice or by circumstance: It's okay. You're not less-than in any way. You can (and probably do) pour love into the lives of other people's children—or simply into the lives of other people.

To those who may have grown up not knowing their mothers, or with mothers who did not meet your needs: I'm sorry. I pray you will find comfort and healing in knowing God, the heavenly Father who never fails and never leaves us.

I wish all of you a sun-kissed and joy-filled week! More fun stuff below! :)

MUSIC: 2CELLOS — I've always loved the cello more than any other instrument (which is why I'm a big fan of the ironically named Piano Guys). I knew of 2CELLOS (a Croatian duo) but hadn't really sought out their music until last week. I particularly like their 2017 album Score, which features themes from movies such as Chariots of Fire, Schindler's List, and Love Story. (Speaking of movies, I've never seen the latter two. Might be something to do this summer.)

If it's the first Monday of the month, that means it's giveaway time. Hurray!

The winner of April's prize draw, randomly picked from all those who participated by answering the question and telling me what cheers them up is . . . da-da-dum . . . Cheryl Peck. Congratulations, Cheryl! I will contact you and have you choose two hand-illustrated bookmarks from the set I showed a couple of weeks ago—one for you and one to give away.

This month's question is: What are your favourite websites or apps? It could be for fun, for productivity at work, for inspiration in your personal life, for creative ideas, etc. I'd love to check them out and maybe share about them in future issues.

The prize? I think I'll sweeten the deal this month. The winner (chosen randomly from those who respond to the survey) will win a $10 Amazon gift card. As usual, if you also share this email (either by forwarding it to friends or sharing it on Facebook using the links at the bottom of this email), I'll enter your name twice. The contest closes on June 6, so you have five weeks to participate (and I'll remind you in a couple of weeks). Click here to enter this month's giveaway.

If you have a copy of my devotional colouring book, Restore My Soul, and aren't already part of the private Facebook group for sharing pictures of your finished pages, please join us! It's so much fun to see how each "colourer" interprets an illustration differently.

In the 1950s, Bette Nesmith Graham invented one of the most popular office supplies of the 20th century yet few people know of her by name. Here's her cool success story!

Chit-chat is often dismissed as mindless and boring. But its absence over the past year is affecting you more than you think. Fascinating stuff here.
