I’m keeping this month’s newsletter short and oh so sweet: I’m currently en route to the Bread Loaf Orion Environmental Writers’ Conference in Ripton, Vermont. This endeavor will find me spending a week in the woods, workshopping colleagues’ manuscripts, listening to lectures, and meeting with agents and editors. Then, afterwards, I’ll be heading to Acadia National Park (which will be my 51st
of the 59 U.S. national parks), followed by a jaunt into Nova Scotia, Canada. It’s been a while since I’ve explored a new region of this world and I trust the trip will breathe some wanderlust back in to my stagnant blood.
Mid-May I did a short Southern California tour with Raf Deza and the Avenue
and Heather Nation
—them playing music and me reading stories. I’m always looking for collaborative ways to produce art and connect with a readership; touring is an exceptional way of achieving this. What’s more, this tour changed the way I see the future of my craft: the musicians played with me while I read and it offered a whole new emotional dynamic to the material. They fed off of me and I fed off of them. View performances HERE
