Last week 200 Hodori students went to see The Christmas Spectacular starring the Radio City Rockettes. We were only able to provide this opportunity because of all the support from generous donors during our year-end giving campaign which was generously matched dollar-for-dollar by Dow Kim. Our Hodori students truly had an unforgettable experience.
A sincere THANK YOU to all our donors, and a special appreciation to our matching gift donor, Dow Kim!
KAFSC Annual Holiday Party For Clients
In December, KAFSC hosted its Annual Holiday Party for the organization's clients and their families. More than 50 guests took part in an evening full of lots of food and games. Children enjoyed face painting and a special visit from Santa who came bearing lots of presents! This holiday party is one small but important way for KAFSC to provide a sense of community and support for those transitioning out of difficult situations. Through festivities like this we can cultivate a closer-knit community while creating fond memories!
KAFSC Volunteer Training and Year-End Appreciation Party
Congratulations to the most recent graduates of KAFSC's 41st Volunteer Training!
Trainees attended five weeks of day-long sessions to learn about topics such as domestic violence and sexual assault, child and elder abuse, self-help counseling, and more. Graduates from this training are eligible to volunteer on KAFSC’s 24-hour bilingual crisis intervention hotline.
In addition, KAFSC hosted its 9th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on December 10th to celebrate the many volunteers who have shown their dedication and commitment over the years. Over 100 volunteers and supporters attended, with 48 volunteers receiving a President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA).
Youth Community Project Team (YCPT) Retreat
To close out the year 2019, YCPT went on its annual winter retreat for a weekend full of team building activities, leadership training, and discussions on topics such as Asian American identity, human rights issues, and what it means to live in New York City.
KAFSC in the Community
KAFSC is always proud to stay active in the community:
(L) KAFSC Executive Director Jeehae Fischer was invited to New York Adult Day Care Center's holiday event to speak and receive a generous donation towards our Rainbow House shelter. The center's seniors held a bazaar, raising money and sharing their proceeds for a good cause!
(R) KAFSC attended a 2020 New Year Celebration hosted by the Korean American Association of Greater New York, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York, and the National Unification Advisory Council New York Chapter to meet with other Korean community leaders and start off the year right!
March with KAFSC at Two Community Events in January!
The Women's March aims to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. It is a movement committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.
KAFSC will meet at 10:40 AM on the corner of Worth and Lafayette Streets (corner of the park), and join in the march to provide our support. We hope to see you there! Look for the KAFSC banner and purple shirts!
Date: Saturday, January 18, 2020 Time: 11:00 AM Location: Foley Square (Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10013)
The Annual Lunar New Year Parade in Flushing, together with the local Chinese community, is a great way to celebrate our heritage! We will be gathering on Union Street across from the 109th Precinct (in front of Koryodang). Delicious tteokguk will be served afterward at Kum Gang San!
