Which form to use?
Dear ADA Member,
Yesterday you were advised that a new excise return must be used from 1 July 2021 to enable you to access the Excise remission scheme for manufacturers of alcoholic beverages. This return must be used to report all goods you enter for home consumption on or after 1 July 2021, otherwise you will not be able to apply the remission.
Home consumption refers to the goods being delivered into the Australian domestic market, usually by delivering them away from the licensed premises but also includes using the goods yourself and selling them for consumption on site.
For goods entered for home consumption between 1 and 30 June 2021, you can use the new form but you cannot apply a remission to those goods. Where you have a monthly settlement period, you have until 21 July to lodge this form.
The Tax Office have now published the updated excise return and instructions. They are available on their website at ato.gov.au/excisereturn
I have until July 21 to send in my June returns. Do I use the old form for this?
It is not a requirement that the old form be used for goods entered prior to 1 July 2021 – the new form could be used provided the box is not ticked to apply the remission. This will ensure the correct amount of duty shows as being payable.
If you have any questions, you can contact the Tax office directly here.
You must download the latest version of adobe to be able to open the from in adobe reader.
