Working stiffs by day, individually toiling to keep their respective Waldo County-based businesses afloat, Alan Gibson, Andrew Carpenter and Mike Bahner interact rarely, but at night they are Rural Electric, which the Portland Phoenix once called, "The coolest Maine band you've probably never heard of." The band, influenced by a wide array of musicians, has played throughout Maine for two decades. With three CDs in circulation, Rural Electric has been compared to Wilco, Yo La Tengo, R.E.M., and Guided By Voices, and other groups that really have nothing to do with each other. Perhaps uncategorizable, but always willing to try to please audiences with original music, the band simply will not go away.
