Summer reassess

What's on our minds in July...

Local as a key to success

No matter how big you become, your local community will always be a big part of your success. So where to start?  We've put together a guide of easy ways you can get involved with your community. Here's a sneak peek:
  • Create a thriving neighborhood around you. Use the NYC BID Association website to find your business improvement district, or go to the city to start your own.

  • “Buying local” isn’t just limited to food. Consider sourcing local vendors for your business. Made in NYC has a great database to find locally made products of all types. (And you can list your business on there as well!)

  • Guide the next generation of entrepreneurs. Business Mentor NY is a free network that allows new entrepreneurs and volunteer business mentors to connect.

Connect (faster) to the global community

Are you doing business in a “digital desert”?  Connect IBZ, NYCEDC’s recent initiative to expand high-speed broadband access across the five boroughs, wants to know if you need better, faster Internet access for your business.

They are currently seeking out businesses in the neighborhoods of Southwest Brooklyn, Greenpoint-Williamsburg, North Brooklyn, and Long Island City. Interested businesses can apply here; the city will put you in touch for service negotiations.

Spice up your vacay... and their vacay

GoPro

Join the photo revolution.

GoPro, once the gadget of extreme go-getters, has now widened its appeal to the regular folk for its ability to take stunning vacation photos and videos. More utilitarian than its smartphone counterparts, the GoPro’s Hero4 Silver can be mounted on a bike helmet, go with you on an scuba dive, or in dire circumstances, be attached to a selfie stick.
Big Apple Greeter

Help tourists be less touristy.

Volunteer to be a Big Apple Greeter and show visitors what New York is like through your own eyes. Not only will they get to learn about your local neighborhood and favorite places, they’ll also get a few tips in navigating the subway system and understanding basic NYC etiquette

Adding it all up...

"We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own."
            —Cesar Chavez

Even in business, we're all in it together. When we share our bounty with the community, the community in turn works to support our business. Take some time to get involved and reap the rewards that only a community can give!
