As I write this the sky is certainly brushing up on some tidying of sand. The forecourt of our local Arco station has a bed of sand, and dunes gather on my back patio and porch.  The dirt in my yard has been smoothed to remove any evidence that I had raked and replenished the fallen leaves and branches. When the wind stops, there will be plenty of dusting and sweeping in the house but meanwhile, sand crunches under my feet.  There's no point in sweeping now.  The surface of the Salton Sea is dark gray, flecked with whitecaps. The ephemeral sky can move water and earth.

In the studio I am planning.  I have a couple of challenges that need to be completed this month - the Hunger Bowls that raise money for homeless children in Moreno Valley, via the Salvation Army. Rick Archer of Vanguard Gallery asked me which shape I would like this year and before I knew it I had volunteered for one of each.

I have an experimental technique in mind on the mixed media front that has been kind of on the backburner for a while but has gotten some momentum when another artist gave me a breakthrough on a technical issue. I hope to have the first one done this month, but there are still a couple issues to overcome. Watch this space!

I also started making art cards from watercolor pieces.  They're a hit!  You can buy them from me at shows or from sm'Art gallery.  We like them so much there, I'm going to offer a chance to make them in a workshop this month.

In part to be less scattered, but also as a practicality for working in an environment that seems to get more arid each year (what happened to El Nino???), I've decided to stop working in acrylics as a primary medium.  It will still be part of the mixed media work but on canvas I will work in oil. This pans out to a sale of smaller acrylics I have in the studio - 40% off! Click HERE to see the list. If there is a larger acrylic you see on the website, I am open to negotiation, but most of the ones showing as being in Wang's are too heavy to ship inexpensively - SoCal local delivery is possible though.

I should have time to work on my challenges this month - I only have two shows and two classes.  I'll need it - I have just been informed of issues with emails from Mailchimp that I use and sending with a gmail address.  So more tech to fiddle with, without complete information.  If you'd like to continue to receive these emails, please add jenibate@gmail.com to your 'safe sender' list.
