The fine line between genius and insanity just got fuzzier.....

Earlier in the week I stumbled across an article on Artnet News about the similarities between artists and psychopaths. A title like that is a red rag to any bull that wields a brush or sculpting tool, but I thought I would read the article before I pitched a fit ( ;-) read the article to understand that joke). Are artists crazy because we are artists, or artists because we are crazy but didn't quite make the grade on being psychotic???

Although quite short, it led to a number of even more interesting articles, most notably this one that described a scientific study that showed that creating art improved various bits of brain function, at least in the older people who had time to participate. I guess younger folks were too busy earning a living or buying art to live with...

So to sum up, if you want to stay saner (everything is relative) as you age, take art classes.  It will keep you from going insane, but in the process might make you crazy....

I have three classes this month:

The painting above is #1201 "Fragments", Mixed Media on panel, 30x24, $1,500.00.  This poem is written for the painting and painted into it:

Delicacy of light,
fragmented shadows and rainbows,
a heart breaking with longing
to travel atop clouds
to the source of passion,
to behold the whisper of peace,
scattering tears
into the void.
