A 2019 LENT for justice peace and care of creation
with Franciscan Voice Canada
Our OFS national source for justice peace and care of creation is proposing you make this a Lent of giving rather than giving up.

… a Lent for justice peace and care of creation
… a Lent for “the common  good”
… a Lent to do something new that you do not already do
… a Lent to challenge yourself, your family, your fraternity
Remember the Gospel says, act in secret, your Father in heaven will reward you
(Mt 6:3-4)

Catechism of the Catholic Church guides us:
1438 The seasons and days of penance in the course of the liturgical year (such as Lent)…  are intense moments of the Church's penitential practice. These times are particularly appropriate for ….fraternal sharing (charitable and missionary works). 1460 The penance….. can consist of prayer, an offering, works of mercy, service of neighbor, voluntary self-denial, sacrifices, and above all the patient acceptance of the cross we must bear.
Make it 10 minutes a day for justice peace and care of creation…being a voice for the voiceless.

Use Franciscan Voice Canada and the Common Good newsletter as your source for ideas and at the same time learn more about JPIC.
How can I do this? (Below embedded links from Franciscan Voice Canada will help you find some action suggestions to help your lenten journey.)
Use this calendar to record your progress and at the end of Lent offer it up to the Lord.  – Download the one page calendar and this Lent challenge to share.

Faith without Works Is Dead  James 2:14-18

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.

18 But some one will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.
Let us pray:
May God bless us so that we may be in the forefront of work for justice, peace and care for creation as our OFS Rule calls us, let us pray.
Here are more ideas for exercising your Lenten project.

Rule 16

Let them esteem work both as a gift and as a sharing in the creation, redemption, and service of the human community.

Pope Francis' Laudato Si' Prayer

O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
who are so precious in your eyes…
God of love, show us our place in this world
as channels of your love
for all the creatures of this earth” (ibid., 246),
God of mercy, may we receive your forgiveness
and convey your mercy throughout our common home.
Praise be to you!
Amen.
