Spring has Sprung at Button Farm!

On Groundhog Day 2021 Punxsutawney Phil declared six more weeks of winter.

Dora, Mona, and Lisa say "Hogwash," as winter’s thaw is well-underway at Button Farm.

In the next few weeks we will be dewinterizing the animal pens, bringing back volunteers and setting up for our April reopening.

Check out the Button Farm website around mid-March for the updated Button Farm website and our 2021 Calendar page.

Great Escapes: Coming in 2021!

The Menare Foundation, Inc. will release its first book in 2021! Great Escapes: Journeys on Maryland’s Underground Railroad, explores the people, places and social forces that created a pathway to freedom.

Forged by self-emancipating slaves and their allies from the 1830s, the Underground Railroad was active in Maryland until the brink of the Civil War.

The book will be published on Menare Press this summer with generous funding from Heritage Montgomery and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.

Additional information will be included in future newsletters as we near our publication date.

Button Farm needs you!

Button Farm will begin its volunteer days mid-March. Perfect for anyone age 16 or older (or younger if accompanied by an adult). We are certified for SSL hours!

Here is a sample of the tasks that will most likely be available on volunteer days:

  • Garden helpers (weeding, planting, harvesting produce)
  • Animal helpers (cleaning animal pens)
  • Prepping farm opening to public (painting, general cleaning, etc.)

All volunteer activities will be outdoors and volunteers must practice COVID-19 protocols (i.e., wearing a mask, social distancing, etc.). The farm is HUGE, so there won't be a problem keeping socially distanced for sure.

Interested in volunteering? Sign-up through the Montgomery County Volunteer Center.

We look forward to seeing you on the Farm!

Donate Now

Like many nonprofits Button Farm has experienced a major loss of revenue this year. And we hope to be open on a full-time basis once our global pandemic has passed.

Till then, we rely on the support and generosity of the community which we serve. Whether you book a reservation to visit in person, or wish to contribute from afar, your donation helps us provide critical support to keep our programs and work alive.

Please visit our DONATE NOW page and see how you can contribute today.
