Safety Officers Summit 2014
The first Safety Officers Summit (SOS) will take place in Toronto on October 21st, 2014.

This event was created to gather together all School Transportation Security Agents within the province of Ontario, and provide them with the opportunity to exchange information, discuss specific topics, learn about all the changes of rules and regulations as well as hear about new items that could assist  with day-to-day work.

Two agents from the MTO will be on site to answer questions from Agents and will inform them of various news items in the school bus industry.  Please see the agenda below:
  • General school bus rules under the Highway Traffic Act
  • Updates and changes to Regulation 612
  • The CVOR program and how it works
  • The BITS program and how it works
  • Question period
Presently, nearly 20 Agents have registered and confirmed their attendance.  It is hoped that this event will be conducted on an annual basis.  Please note that the Summit is respectfully only open to School Transportation Security Agents and related positions at this time.

If you are interested in this event or have any questions, please e-mail Alain Martel (Event Organizer), Security Agent at the Ottawa Consortium (Le Consortium de transport scolaire d'Ottawa "CTSO"),
What Are You Doing For School Bus Safety Week?
As you may be aware, School Bus Safety Week (SBSW) is Oct. 20-24, 2014 as noted on the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) website at:  We understand that School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is usually held mid-week on the Wednesday of SBSW e.g. Wed. Oct. 22, 2014.  As well, the Canada Safety Council has designated Oct. 17-23, 2014 as National School Safety Week:
OSBA would appreciate hearing from members regarding activities that your organization may be conducting or involved with during SBSW or on School Bus Driver Appreciation Day.  We’d like to recognize and highlight your activities in the newsletter and potentially on the website.  So please, send us an email to or fax to 416.695.9977 or give us a call at 416.695.9965 ext. 6 and we’d be happy to chat and take down a few notes of your wonderful initiatives.
This is an excellent opportunity for the industry to emphasize and promote the many significant endeavours that members undertake to ensure the safety and viability of student transportation and to support our professional school bus drivers in the tremendous responsibility they accept for keeping our children safe.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Seon's 2014 Anti-Bullying Colouring Contest
In 2013, mobile surveillance and fleet management solutions company, Seon held a Colouring Contest called, "Bullies Aren't Cool".  There were over 1,300 submissions from almost 50 school districts across North America! Seon will hold a colouring contest annually to continue the journey in standing up to bullying on and off the school bus.

This year Seon's Colouring Contest has 2 parts!

Part 1 started on July 29, 2014 and will run until September 22, 2014. Children will draw the outline (to colour in) for Part 2.  The winner's outline will be used in Part 2 of the Colouring Contest.  The winner will also receive a Seon anti-bullying medal, button, and "Buddy the Seon Safety Bear" stuffed animal! Part 2 begins October 1, 2014 for National Bullying Prevention Month.

The Colouring Contest is a great way to spark the conversation with children about the important topic of bullying.  To read how to enter, visit For more information:  Tia O'Grady
AM740 Zoomer Radio Advertising Opportunities
