First and foremost, I enjoy being involved with the Community Nutcracker because it is a beloved holiday tradition, for both participants and patrons alike! This seamless performance provides our community with a quality experience for performers from many dance schools and for our patrons pure holiday enjoyment. I hope the public is aware that the memorable performances onstage support worthy charities in our community.
On a personal note, my first teacher, Mervyn Rickard, along with Thelma Baggs, Betty Marks and Marta Jackson conceived the idea of a “community” production highlighting the talents of local dancers, directors, and production staff who would work together to create a first-class experience and worked hard to bring that dream into reality. As a performer in those original productions, I can say that the opportunity to come together with other dedicated dancers and participate in a full-length ballet, knowing that our audiences were also treasuring the performances was an incredibly rewarding experience. For twenty-five years, the Community Nutcracker has maintained and furthered these original ideals. BRAVO!
