Inspired

from Rebecca

I sometimes wonder, "can life honestly throw me another curve ball?" Then here comes a barrage of them. On the 18th anniversary of the death of my beloved brother, my mother needed to be put in the hospital because of dehydration and a possible infection, always unsure if today will be her last day on earth with us. Then, the dreaded fall my sister took and broke her ankle. I honestly wonder why I get up out of bed and this is just my close family. I ask the Good Lord to give me the strength, and then it happens.  I look for the good and I always find it. In the emergency room, my mom gets room #18 and I know Chase is there with me..."Hey buddy, thanks for joining us!" I think to myself. Then I get a text from a friend. "Looks what's coming to my town!"...its an article about the Milford Race4Chase Kids Tri program. That made my day! I'm learning to live in the moment, not be upset by things that are beyond my control but to embrace the moment.  As my mom was starting to feel a little better because she was getting the fluids she needed, she smiled at me because I was just with her. (thats a moment) It's a difficult journey that I'm on personally, but I find that if you look for the special moments, if you look past the negative, there is always a positive. Sometimes, just maybe, there are more positive possibilities if you choose to see them. My whole day shot spent in the ER? Well, you can look at it that way or you can look at it as some time spent with my daughter and mother, making a doctor laugh, or finding the humor in bodily functions with two nurses. Not to mention seeing my mother eat a whole cup of rice pudding and actually enjoying it. If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting my mother, you would know that was a special moment. Lastly, my final love hug again from Chase putting my mom in her room on 9W*"8"  I knew she was in good hands and my angels in heaven would be watching over my angel on earth. This journey is teaching me things everyday, and the friends we have gained along the way are priceless, It may not always feel like it, you may choose not to see the signs, but I know we are all blessed. Just open your heart, see past the negative, find the positive, feel blessed to be in the moment.

CMAK will again stage its Race4Chase Kid's Triathlon at Wolfe Park in Monroe, CT on Sunday July 12th, 2015.  Those that participated last year can remember the thrill of competition where children 6-12 years complete a USAT- sanction triathlon.  The race is open to all children in the community on a first come first serve basis.  Registration will open on Mother's Day so save the date to assure space in the field.  Awards will be given for each calendar year based upon date of birth.  Scholarships are available upon request so all have a chance to participate.  For more details including race distances please refer to our website at Race4Chase Kid's Triathlon.

Race4Chase News

Race4Chase Boston Marathon Team in Preparation:

Jonathan Pleva
hosted a painting social last night in his effort to raise money in support of CMAK and his Boston Marathon run.  We understand his training is going well and he is making progress in attaining his $5k fundraising goal.  Zoe Schwalje has already surpassed her goal and leading our six member team in fundraising with her famous bake sales contributing significantly to her total. Please refer to the Race4Chase Boston Marathon Team to make a donation to any of our team members.

John "Moose" Williams shared with us this photo that he commissioned to commemorate his efforts in representing Race4Chase at the Boston Marathon for the second consecutive year.

We are only about one month away from the big day and wish our team members to continue their training in good form and free of injury.

As a special treat, the Race4Chase Boston Marathon team and their families/supporters have been invited by CMAK to a brunch on Sunday, April 19th, 2015 at Alma Nove Restaurant at harborside in Hingham, MA just outside of Boston.  A sincere thanks to owner, Paul Wahlberg, for hosting this event and for supporting the CMAK Foundation and the Kowalski family.

Yale Triathlon Team to Race 4 Chase

The Yale Triathlon Team will be racing in memory of Chase, including the Race4Chase logo on the racing kit which is now in production.  The team has started their Spring season at the West Point Duathlon this past weekend and will be competing in the USAT Collegiate Nationals at Clemson University in SC at the end of April.  We wish them a successful season and hope to see them at our events in the near future.

Race4Chase at Tri-Family Racing Sprint , Peoria Arizona

The Grimes family was well represented as they raced in Chase's memory at the Tri-Family Racing Maxi Sprint Triathlon in Peoria Arizona on March 8th, 2015.  The Grimes ladies took 1st place in the relay race as Elizabeth navigated the pool, Emily the bike and Meghan anchored the run.  Kevin finished 4th in his age group in the individual event earlier in the morning.
