Dear Friends

Warm greetings to you all. I hope this email finds you well.

I had a few quick updates that I was wanting to share with you:

Christopher is one of the boys at Lighthouse Christian Academy (LCA), and it’s been wonderful to see him learn and grow as a young man. Even though he was 18 when he joined us last year, he had hardly attended any schooling as he’d spent so many years on the streets, and therefore had to start at the level of reading and writing English. He’s been so enthusiastic and motivated to learn since joining us, and in a recent report, he was also thanked for his maturity and exemplary behaviour to his LCA colleagues. He did very well at the recent convention our students all went to (for all students in Zimbabwe using the same curriculum as LCA), and he recently decided he wanted to be baptised at Bulawayo Baptist Church which he is part of. He wants to get through his basics in education and then go to college to be a mechanic.

We’ve been facing greater financial challenges as a ministry over the last 11 months than we’ve previously experienced. Part of this was the fall of the Australian dollar against the US$ over the couple of years preceding this period, and some other factors. So we’ve been seeking what God is saying to us at this time, and what we should do. And there’s been some important things that have come from that process, and some cost cutting.
One of the things coming out of this process is that we are thinking it may be right to slightly modify the vision for LCA, so that LCA will have a ‘half-way school’ focus, for kids who’ve missed much schooling, before they are reintegrated into the government schooling system, or to vocational training/work experience. However, where this isn’t an option, we’ll make some exceptions for children, and where students are reintegrated into government schools, we’ll retain strong relationships and input, and provide tuition support as well as other support and counselling, life skills, discipleship and vocational training.

It was with joy that we received the news that Ezra and Martha were finally given permission by the Department of Social Services to foster Michael, to be adopted ASAP, from Isaiah’s Babies Home. It’s been a very long journey for them all !

Zimbabwe is getting a harder and harder place for people to survive, with more and more people becoming unemployed, and currently facing a cash crisis. But we’re thankful to be able to reach out with love at this time.

Thank you so much for your support and partnership with us!

On a personal note, it’s been a challenging year for me at times, including a period where I was really run down, and needed some extended leave. But, I’ve been learning and growing through this, with God’s help. And on one occasion, I felt God was disciplining me towards holiness (as it shares about in Hebrews 12). However, I do want that, and am thankful that it’s happening because I’m loved and accepted as a child of His.

Thank you for your love and prayers for us and ONM.
