UIL SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST
Contest is next Saturday (2/8) at Morton Ranch HS. Please note that no transportation will be provided for this event. Solos: Please be sure you bring your accompanist fee to you last rehearsal this next week. Also, be sure you have your original instrumental part with measures numbered for the judge on the day of the contest. Ensembles: I will have your original score for the judge on the day of the contest. Be sure you and your group are prepared to play on Saturday. You are the very first Tompkins HS ensembles to ever participate in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest! More information and a detailed schedule to follow early next week.

TUESDAY NIGHT REHEARSALS
Each rehearsal is VERY important to the development of our ensemble. We have about a month before our first competition on March 6th. Do good work!

SECRET VALENTINE
Our student officers have organized a secret valentine game. We’ve drawn names and everyone has been asked to drop hints or clues off in your drawn valentine’s locker. On the 14th bring your drawn valentine a final gift and clue to who their secret valentine might be ($5 or less please). We’ll make our guesses during class that Friday and exchange the final clues. As you can see some secret valentines have been hard at work already! See link.

FEBRUARY FUNDRAISER
Preparations for our February fundraiser have begun. The community garage sale we are planning will utilize donations from the community to sell for this event. We are requesting that you hold on to any items you think could be donated for our garage sale event. Donation drop offs will begin on Feb. 21st. Also, we will need many parent volunteers to help manage this event. Volunteer sheets coming soon. More info here.

CONCERT OPPORTUNITIES
This weekend and next weekend there are a few unique concert events going on around the Houston area. 1. One of my favorite composers, John Adams, is leading the Houston Symphony this weekend in some of his own music. In addition one of the world’s most talented living legends of the violin, Gil Shaham, is performing the Korngold Violin Concerto (sounds like a film score). Tickets start at $25. More info. 2. Next weekend is the OTHS production of Charlie Brown. If you have the time I would not miss it! More info. 3. Just down the road SLHS is performing an evening of “epic” master works tomorrow night (Saturday). More info.

SPRING TRIP PAYMENT
That latest trip payment is overdue (last Friday). If you have not yet turned in this payment please do so as soon as possible. Please make checks payable to Tompkins Orchestra Friends ($125). Envelopes are available near the orch drop box. Thanks!

SPRING TRIP MANDATORY PARENT MEETING
If your child is participating in the New Orleans meeting please mark your calendars for April 29th at 6:30pm. We will hold a mandatory parent/child meeting at OTHS.
