Sleep better with peaceful ambient sounds from Alexa (they're free!)

Just say "Alexa, play thunderstorm sounds"

Alexa can play almost any ambient sound under the sun -- such as babbling brook, ocean waves, rain sounds or even oscillating fan sounds for simple white noise (this is my favorite!). Just say "Alexa, play (insert your ambient sound of choice)." If you want to hear a list of options, say "Alexa, ask ambient sounds for a list of options."

NEW feature! Turn on sleep sounds via Alexa routine. You can now open Alexa skills via an Alexa routine! With this feature upgrade, you can finally set up an Alexa routine that kicks off when you say "Alexa, good night" and opens your favorite sleep sounds Alexa skill (and maybe even turns off the lights and sets Alexa to do not disturb too!).

Two extra tips to play Alexa sleep sounds like a pro:

  1. Turn "loop" on: Most ambient sounds turn off after a set amount of time (usually 1 hour). If you want the sounds to play longer (or even all night), say "Alexa, loop on" (say "Alexa, stop" in the morning to turn them off)
  2. Set a sleep timer: To play sleep sounds for a few hours but not all night, say "Alexa, set a sleep timer for 3 hours"

A new Alexa feature identifies groceries for blind users

With the new "Show and Tell" feature, blind and low vision customers can hold common household packaged goods that are hard to distinguish by touch up to the Echo Show camera and ask "Alexa, what am I holding?" Alexa will even provide cues to help customers place the item in front of the Echo Show camera. Tap/click here to read more.
