Turn regular devices into smart devices with a smart plug

It's an easy & inexpensive way to get a smart home experience

Smart plugs function as an on/off switch that you can control through Alexa. So if you're not ready to commit to a full smart home lighting set-up but still want to be able to turn your lights on and off with Alexa, a smart plug is the answer for you. Just plug your existing lamps into smart plugs, and they will be transformed into voice-activated smart lights. Want your regular old coffee maker to turn on automatically each morning too? All you need is a smart plug and an Alexa routine. I recommend the Amazon Smart Plug because it practically sets itself up -- I have multiple across my home and absolutely love them.

Holiday Pro Tip #1: Smart plugs make for a great stocking stuffer gift! While we love the Amazon Smart Plug because it's so easy to set up, there are less expensive options too.

Holiday Pro Tip #2: A smart plug will let you easily control your holiday lights with Alexa voice commands and Alexa routines that turn them on and off at set times every day. All you have to do is plug your current holiday lights into your new smart plug!

Set-up for the Amazon Smart Plug could not be easier

Here's how set-up for the Amazon Smart Plug works:

  1. Take the plug out of its packaging
  2. Plug it into the wall
  3. Open the Alexa app
  4. Give it a few seconds to find the plug...
  5. Tap Devices in the bottom navigation bar > Plugs to confirm it's there!

You can now re-order from Chipotle with Alexa!

Chipotle's recently launched Alexa skill allows you to re-order your favorite meal from Chipotle for pickup or delivery. While you won't be able to pick and choose different orders via the Alexa skill, if you have a go-to Chipotle order, ordering it via Alexa is probably the fastest way to do it (just be sure that it's marked as your "favorite" in the Chipotle app before you try to order it via Alexa). Chipotle also announced that phone deliveries called into Chipotle's 2,500 branches will now be handled by Chipotle’s custom voice assistant. Tap/click here to read more.
