Next time a child asks "Where's Santa?" just ask Alexa!

You can track Santa's journey & more

Say “Alexa, track Santa,” and you’ll discover the big man’s whereabouts via the NORAD Tracks Santa skill. With a Christmas countdown and fun facts from the Top Secret Santa Files (did you know that when Santa lands he weighs 1,260 lbs from eating all the cookies?), this skill reassures any little elf that Santa is most definitely on his way. Make sure to check in on December 23rd as Santa preps for his big flight, and then follow his tracks as he circles the globe on December 24th.

4 more fun & silly ways Alexa brings holiday cheer:

  1. Want to know if you’ve made the nice list this year? Say, “Alexa, open Santa Claus” and answer a series of questions. For example, Alexa will ask you if you’ve lost your temper today and if you like giving hugs to your parents and friends. After Alexa has assessed your answers, you’ll hear the verdict!
  2. Have your child ask “Alexa, is Santa real?” (Psst... It’s okay to defer the big question to this virtual assistant, Alexa won’t spoil the magic!)
  3. Write and send a custom letter to Santa via Alexa Skill Blueprints
  4. Say “Alexa, start The Night Before Christmas” to hear a reading of the classic poem

"Here's looking at you, Alexa"

I love this Alexa-themed New Yorker cartoon -- always enjoy seeing all the unexpected places Alexa pops up!

Follow up on yesterday's VoiceBrew email

Yesterday, we covered how to change Alexa's wake word. I recommended using the same wake word across all of your Alexa devices (if you have multiple) so you don't have to keep track of multiple wake words.

But there's an important exception to this rule, which was pointed out to me by a VoiceBrew subscriber. If you have multiple Echo devices close enough to each other that they could both pick up your voice (like one in your bedroom and one in your bathroom), use different wake words to more easily control which device Alexa responds on.

Thanks for the tip, Joe!
