Just say "Alexa, open Headspace" to get started
If you’re new to meditation, don’t worry: the Headspace Alexa skill has everything you need to get started (and it's free!). The first time you use it, Alexa will offer you a brief demo to bring you up to speed. After that, when you open the skill, you'll be asked if you'd like to begin today's meditation. Say yes! You can also cut to the chase and say "Alexa, ask Headspace for today's meditation."
On a personal note, I've been meditating every day when I wake up for over a year, and it's one of the best things I've done for myself. Meditation has been proven to help you make smarter choices and significantly increase your ability to focus -- I have absolutely found this to be the case.
Pro Tip: I find the volume of the Headspace skill to be quite low and recommend turning it up 2 notches from your usual volume. For example, if you usually keep your Alexa volume set to 4, say "Alexa, set volume to 6."
3 more ways to relax with the Headspace Alexa skill:
Pro Tip: Even if you don't have Echo Buds, you can still access the Headspace Alexa skill on-the-go in the Alexa app. Just pop in your earbuds/headphones > open the Alexa app > tap the middle "Alexa" icon on the bottom navigation bar > and say "Alexa, ask Headspace to start a mindful walk."
- Need to blow off steam with a walk around the block? Try "Alexa, ask Headspace to start a mindful walk" (you can also ask for a "running meditation" if that's more your style)
- Trouble falling asleep? Try "Alexa, ask Headspace to help me fall asleep" (ask for the guided sleep exercise when prompted)
- Want help unwinding when you get home from work? "Alexa, tell Headspace I want to wind down" will give you 10 minutes of soothing music
