HAWAII STATE LIBRARY WINS COMMUNICATOR AWARD
The Hawaii State Library received its third award, the Communicator Award of Distinction. Through collaborative user-centered design workshops, design strategies were uncovered that would appeal to fiercely loyal library users and new users alike. The team used patrons’ personal stories about how the library has impacted their lives to promote the library’s diverse services including passports, quilt patterns, free online classes, eBooks, events, and more. The site was re-organized to reflect how patrons ask questions and existing social media imagery was also integrated into the new visual design demonstrating that the library is safe, friendly, community-driven, and a fun place. Learn more
HAWAII AWARDS & NOTICES DATA SYSTEM (HANDS) MAKES PROCUREMENT PROCESS EASIER
HANDS, the Hawaii Awards & Notices Data System, was originally launched in 2017 as a one-stop shop for vendors to find opportunities to do business with the State of Hawaii. Recently, we integrated an API to allow HANDS to display online solicitation and award notices for the Department of Education and University of Hawaii. These branches account for a significant number of opportunities that users will now be able to see within a single system. By making these opportunities easier to find, this results in increased competition which ultimately saves tax payer money spent on government purchases. Learn more

MEDICAL MARIJUANA REGISTRY ADDS NEW GROW SITE SEARCH
The Medical Marijuana Registry was recently enhanced with the addition of a new search for Law Enforcement Officers. Prior to this change, officers were not able to search for or verify the legitimacy of grow sites that they encountered. Verification required a call to the Department of Health, then a wait while the agency performed the search. This service was also only available during business hours. Now, designated officers can easily go online and enter a registration number and expiration date to view the associated grow site location information. This service is available 24/7. Learn more
