Living Wage cities 2015!

Networks are emerging around the country as the Living Wage Movement gains momentum.  Porirua and Newtown networks have launched in the region that celebrates the first council commitment to become a Living Wage City: Wellington.  Picnics across Auckland will call for a commitment to the Living Wage in the Long Term Plan that aims to raise living standards but currently has no mechanism to do this.  Read about events past and future in this newsletter.


JR McKenzie Trust backs Living Wage to build the power of communities in Auckland and Wellington

Two community organisers have joined the Living Wage Movement thanks to the financial support of the JR McKenzie Trust.  Lyndy McIntyre is based in Wellington and Diana Yukich is working for 20 hours as community organiser in Auckland in addition to her work as the Accreditation Coordinator for the Living Wage Employer programme.

Welcome Kapiti Quakers!

Kapiti Quakers are the newest member organisation in Wellington and the first to join in Kapiti, North of Wellington. An action group has formed in Kapiti to seek support from local organisations and kick start a Kapiti Living Wage movement. Contact

The wild winds nearly blew us away and so did the enthusiasm for the Living Wage movement at Porirua's Festival of the Elements on Waitangi Day. Living Wage Porirua has been meeting regularly and the Porirua crew collected statements from their community on what the living wage would mean to them.  To get involved in Porirua email

Living Wage supporters packed out the Red Sea Cafe in Newtown, Wellington for a fundraiser on Sunday 8 February. The event brought together a wide range of locals from one of Wellington's most diverse communities to eat African food and talk about the living wage. To get involved in Newtown email

On February 24 there will be an announcement of the Living Wage rate for 2015.  Watch this space!

As grass roots movements grow around Wellington, it's time to bring everyone together. Also it's time to refresh our Local Board. A regional get together and informal AGM will be held on 12 March 5-7 at an inner city venue TBC. Food, music, local reports - more fun than business! Contact
