Making Impressions...

Making a real impression by building with exceptional people is exactly the effect Acacia’s Custom Tallowwood Timber Windows and Doors have achieved for the revitalised “Middle Harbour House” in Mosman, NSW.

In the heart of one of Sydney’s most sort-after suburbs, Mosman, stands an awe-inspiring home, designed and constructed by Steele Associates construction, Richard Cole Architects and the Client.
The brief: - Richard Cole - Architect

The brief required the transformation of a Federation house that had been degraded over the years by unsympathetic additions into a cohesive and substantial contemporary family dwelling. The client was extensively involved with the overall design, material selection, interior detailing and selection of fixtures and fittings, even working from the architect’s office for a period. This collaborative approach ensured an outcome where the client, through continued personal investment throughout the design, procurement and construction processes achieved a deeper sense of ownership of the building.

"...high level of skill and cooperation..."

“The house is a testament to the dedicated craftsmen who built it. The concrete, steelwork, hardwood windows, large pocket sliding doors, timber cladding and lining, joinery, zinc cladding, concealed lighting and stonework are all custom made hand crafted elements. The design called for minimal tolerances, requiring a high level of skill and cooperation between trades.” –Richard Cole - Architect

"...a palette of tactical natural materials..."

“Middle Harbour House” features many different types of windows and doors, ranging from massive awning windows, fixed glass windows, to large sliding doors all custom made out of beautiful Australian hardwood species Tallowwood. Tallowwood is a type of Eucalypt, which is grown around mainly the East Coast of Australia. Tallowwood ranges from Browns to Yellows, with straight grain and variety of features and is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. With coatings of Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 stain coating, brings out the natural warmth and beauty of the Tallowwood, enhancing the overall character of the home. Richard describes the home by “The warm, substantial character of the dwelling is carefully composed by means of the clarity of the detailing, a palette of tactical natural materials and the careful manipulation of light. The building aspires to the beauty, substance and place making in order to provide a vessel in which a family can grow.”
