Imagine having to build a sustainably viable, yet modern home on the face of the steep Illawarra escarpment...
South Coast builder Matt Jolley was faced with this challenging project, but successfully met every exigency and went on to take out seven prestigious building awards.
Canberra architect Ross Feller, designed the buildings and it proved to be a complex and challenging project for the environmentally sensitive South Coast area.
The owner's desire to live in a more sustainable way, is truly reflected in the design and final outcome of the project.
Timber windows and doors well fitted the criteria to utilise sustainable and natural resources. Australian Blackbutt and double glazed units were used throughout the home to satisfy bushfire and energy efficiency requirements.
The design and layout of the timber windows and doors enhance the architect's objective to design a modern, open plan home that blends into the escarpment.
Completed in early 2011, this Coledale Rainforest Retreat has, to date, won the following awards:
NSW Excellence in Housing Awards 2011:
