Lesson 550: The Future: What Matters Most

The human heart desires to look around the corner, to see how everything turns out. We imagine what will happen at work, at home, whether our loved ones will be safe.

The forces of evil are eager to help us discover what God has concealed. The purpose of fortune tellers, crystal balls, palm readers, astrologers, tarot cards, and other occult divination is to foresee what only God knows.

In God’s loving mercy, He blesses us with the protection of ignorance about the future. A quick glance at a newspaper, or 5 minutes of cable news, is almost overwhelming.

How could we possibly bear to know all of the crime, illness, death and other bad news for the next 20 years?

On the night He was betrayed, our Lord told His disciples many things about the future. It was His last opportunity to speak with them before He died.

But He did not reveal the whole future; it would have been unbearable. As an act of mercy, He revealed only what mattered most.

John 16:12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

John 16:20 You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.

John 16:22 you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

About This Series

The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21

- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work
