Lesson 585: Fear of God, Pt.6
As we prepare for the Lord’s return, Peter urges us in 2 Pet.3:10-12 to live godly lives. God is training us to fear Him now, to prepare us for heaven.
John Murray said, “What or whom we worship determines our behavior.” Fear of God governs our conduct.
Once we understand the character of God, and that He is present everywhere at once, and that we owe Him an infinite debt for our sin, this awareness influences our actions.
God knows our thoughts; He sees our secret sins. He hates sin.
If we love Him, we will obey Him:
John 14:15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments
Our obedience also demonstrates that we fear God:
Deut.6:2 NIV [you shall] fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
