Lesson 34: The Motivation for Ministry
Rom.8:39 [nothing] in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God’s loving kindness is what allows us, and motivates us, to gladly obey Him. We must learn to fix our eyes and our mind on Christ; His love makes us obey. Heb.12:2
Paul’s motivation for ministry is highlighted in 2 verses:
2 Cor.5:14 “the love of Christ controls us”
2 Cor.5:11 “knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others”
The fear of the Lord and the love of Christ are the “bookends” or boundaries for our ministry.
God’s love is the fountain of our obedience. His love is the highest motive for learning what pleases the Lord. His love is the best reason for us to actually do what pleases Him (obey).
The mind’s primary job is to know and never forget 2 things: the evil of sin, and God’s love.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
