Lesson 552: The Father of Lies
Satan wants us to bypass the steps God has designed for each of our lives, by causing us to doubt God’s good purposes and wisdom.
God’s plan may be for you to climb a tall mountain or walk through a deep valley. Satan tries to persuade you that you can’t see what’s beyond the mountain because God is cruel.
As soon as you begin to nibble at this bait, you’re looking for a different god, and you’re dangerously close to biting his hook.
John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires… There is no truth in him… he is a liar and the father of lies.
Satan believes that he answers to no one, and that he has power to do whatever he wants. When Satan tempted Jesus in Luke 4:6, Satan said “I give it to whom I will,” referring to authority over all the kingdoms of the earth.
In Satan’s 3 temptations of Jesus in the wilderness, Satan was trying to make Jesus his son. In the first temptation, Satan wants to play the father’s role as provider of food.
In the 2nd & 3rd temptations, Satan wanted to play the father’s roles to protect and giving an inheritance.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
