St Isidore Catholic Church

Adult Faith Formation (RCIA) Newsletter

Week of November 28 - December 4 2021

Happy New Year Everyone!

No, it’s not 2022 yet, but it is a new Liturgical Year. The Catholic Church calendar begins during Advent. Advent is the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas. And Advent started this Sunday, November 28. You probably noticed the mass colors changed from green to purple this past Sunday. Purple signifies preparation or waiting. We are waiting for the coming of our Lord!

If you were able to join us last week, we had a special presentation on all things Advent. What it means, and how to celebrate it with your family. If you missed it, please come this week to get the handouts!

This Wednesday, December 1, we will be meeting at 6:30pm in the Assisi Room. We will all meet together in the Assisi Room for opening prayer and announcements, and then we will split up between Inquiry group and Catechumenate group.

Our Inquiry Group will will be an overview on the entire RCIA process. If you haven’t had a chance to join us on Wednesday nights yet this week would be a great time to start as you will get a sense of what RCIA is all about and how you can learn more about the Catholic Church and receiving your sacraments.

Our Catechumenate group will have a discussion on Sacred Tradition led by Matt Nelson. Before Wednesday night, take a look at this short video from Fr Mike Schmitz about Sacred Tradition:

Why Catholics Use Scripture and Tradition

As a reminder, next Wednesday, December 8, instead of having class in the Assisi Room you are all invited to join us for mass inside the church at 6pm as we celebrate the feast day of The Immaculate Conception. This is a Holy Day of Obligation, which means, just like every Sunday, are to attend mass. Please read the Catechism paragraphs 2180-2183 for more on this.

We meet for Breaking Open the Word every Sunday at 10am Mass. After the priest’s homily, he will call forward all who are participating in RCIA. He says a blessing over you then dismisses you with one of our team members to meet together and discuss the bible readings that were just read at mass.

It is very helpful if you arrive to mass early so you can sit close to the front. It helps us know who is present and it’s a shorter walk for you when the priest calls you forward.

Don’t forget to check out There you will find amazing videos, audio books, and books about every topic related to the Catholic Faith. There are even movies you and your family can watch together. If you have a smart tv or Roku, you can get the Formed app and watch on your tv. If you have never sign in before, choose “sign up” then “sign up as a parishioner” and search for St Isidore Yuba City Church.

This time of the year its a great place to find videos about Advent and how to prepare to celebrate Christmas.
