RCIA Newsletter

Week of September 19-25 2021

Greetings Participants and Parishioners.

Thank you to those who joined us last week. Matt gave a great talk about the sacrament of Confirmation and we learned about the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Don’t forget that every Sunday at 10am Mass we are meeting for “Breaking Open the Word.” After the priest’s homily, he will call forward all who are participating in RCIA. He says a blessing over you then dismisses you with one of our team members to meet together and discuss the bible readings that were just read at mass. It is a great opportunity for us to come together again during the week and it is an important part of your RCIA journey.

It is very helpful if you arrive to mass early so you can sit close to the front. It helps us know who is present and it’s a shorter walk for you when the priest calls you forward.

This Wednesday, September 22, we will be meeting at 6:30pm in the Assisi Room. We will all meet together in the Assisi Room and then after opening prayer and announcements we will split up between Inquiry group and Catechumenate group.

Our Inquiry group will be answering the question, “Who is Jesus?”. Here is a short video from Bishop Robert Barron on topic:

Who is Jesus?

Our Catechumenate group will be continuing our discussion on the Sacraments as we take a deeper look at the sacrament of Holy Communion, or the Eucharist. The Eucharist is so important to our Catholic faith that we will discussing it for two weeks. You can prepare for this lesson by reading the Gospel of John, chapter 6 verses 22-71 where Jesus tells his followers he is the “bread of life”

This Tuesday, September 21, is the feast day of St Matthew. Matthew was one of the Jesus’ twelve apostles and he also wrote one of the gospels. Below is a clip from the show, The Chosen, depicting the moment when Jesus told Matthew to follow him. I love how this show shows the disciples as real people who had to risk a lot and leave their old lives behind to follow Jesus, and Matthew left a lot behind, but he gave it up to follow Jesus. He is a real inspiration for all of us.
