We are only two months into 2015 but what a year it has been! In this newsletter, we'll just scratch the surface as we bring you stories of Cooperation Circles across the U.S. and Canada joining a global movement to amplify interfaith harmony, highlight upcoming deadlines for important events and more!
World Interfaith Harmony Week
Interfaith Works celebrated with the World Interfaith Harmony Week Assembly.
The first week of February marked United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week. Seventeen URI Cooperation Circles across the US and Canada joined in the celebration with prayers, conversations, games, visits to houses of worship and more! Upcoming Events
Parliament of the World's Religions in Salt Lake City
  • The Parliament of the World's Religions is the world's oldest, largest, and most inclusive gathering of people of all faith and traditions. The gathering will take place this year in Salt Lake City from Oct. 15-19. If you are planning to attend, please tell let us know. Here are few key dates: 
    • March 15: Deadline to submit a program proposal.
    • March 31: Deadline to save $150 on your registration.

  • The North American Interfaith Network (NAIN) will hold their annual NAINConnect from July 19-22 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Here are few key dates:

Leadership Council
It is our delight to welcome Rev. Eric Huseth and Dana Jiang to the URI North America Leadership Council. Both have been a part of URI's Young Leaders Program and bring extraordinary contributions to our region’s leadership through their dynamic and inspirational vision of a thriving and energized network. Read more.
Global Spotlight
In January, The Society for Welfare of the Handicapped, a Cooperation Circle in India, was given the "Best NGO" award by its state government. The circle runs three schools that serve 225 handicapped children. They are pioneers in North India in the field of education for children with special needs. Read more.
Resources for the Season
The Green Rule
As spring approaches, we are entering a special season of awareness of caring for the Earth. United Nations World Water Day is March 22 and Earth Day is exactly one month after that. We hope these resources will serve you as you plan for and celebrate these days. 
  • The Green Rule: The Green Rules were chosen to demonstrate that each religion and spiritual philosophy has a long-standing tradition of ecological stewardship. Follow the link for posters and study guides! 
  • LoveWater Video: Ta'kaiya Blaney, a member of the Cooperation Circle Protecting and Restoring the Sacred, talks about the importance of water in our world. Her Cooperation Circle also works extensively on protecting and restoring the Earth.
  • Preach-In on Global Warming: Over Valentine's Day weekend, the Cooperation Circle California Interfaith Power and Light and its nationwide network campaigned for climate healing and action. They will continue this momentum through Earth Day. Visit the links above for resources and opportunities to participate. 
  • Fukushima Disaster: March 11 marks the 4th anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. In response to the crisis, Indigenous Elders and Medicine Peoples gathered for the first time and released a unified statement asking the global community to wake up and start investing in planetary health. Read more
