Pollinator Week is Upon Us!
Greetings Friends of FieldWatch! We hope you are enjoying the first few weeks of summer and that you are celebrating National Pollinator Week! Honey bees and other pollinators play a crucial role in agriculture and every year, during Pollinator Week (June 19-25, 2017), we take time to recognize their importance. However, to make strides in protecting and improving pollinator health, we need to keep pollinators on the agenda every day of the year.
Across the agriculture industry, there are many initiatives focused on improving honey bee and pollinator health. For example, the Honey Bee Health Coalition brings together beekeepers, researchers, government agencies, growers and other key partners to improve the health of honey bees, specifically around production agriculture. FieldWatch has been a member of the Honey Bee Health Coalition since 2016. We are excited to work with so many like-minded partners on keeping honey bees healthy.
At FieldWatch, we consistently look for ways to modify and innovate our tools to be more useful for our members. As you know, BeeCheck allows beekeepers and pesticide applicators to work together to protect apiaries. To ensure BeeCheck continues to address the needs and concerns of beekeepers, we invited Neal Bergman, Missouri’s largest commercial beekeeper, to join the FieldWatch Board of Directors. As the founder of Delta Bee Company and the former president of the Missouri State Beekeeper’s Association, Neal will provide invaluable perspective to our organization and help ensure the voice of the beekeeper is top-of-mind as we move forward.
In addition to Neal, we are excited to welcome four other new members to the Board: Burleson Smith from BASF, Matt Haines of Piatt County FS/GROWMARK, Jason Roth with Winfield United and Brant Harrison with Kokopelli Produce. We are honored so many talented and committed professionals are serving on our Board!
Thank you for your continued support of our stewardship tool – we wish you a safe and successful rest of the season!
