Culver City - The Heart of Screenland
Founded in 1917 by Henry Culver, who named the city after himself, Culver began luring filmmakers to build their studios here. Metro Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Cecil B. DeMille, David O. Selznick, RKO, Desilu and Culver all built film and television production studios here. More recently Amazon, Apple and HBO moved in offering video streaming services.
With tree-lined streets and a busy downtown scene, Culver City is home to restaurants, bars, unique museums, parks and the iconic wedge-shaped Culver Hotel. All 124 munchkins resided in this famous hotel while filming “The Wizard of Oz'' where an underground tunnel was built so these actors could easily travel to and from the set.
