Create your own faults in the Electude Simulator

With the introduction of student tracking, the Electude Simulator is out of the beta version.  It is now possible to create your own faults and to write the complaint description on the work order in your own words.
The other updates included in the new release are:
  • Session restore - When a student returns to a simulation module, the module is restored to the state where the student left off.
  • Student results - Instructors can now monitor student results. Included are the filled in diagnosis, the automatic final inspection report, the invoice, the log file with all student actions and any stored oscilloscope images.
  • Automatic evaluation - When a module has automatic evaluation enabled, the student’s score is calculated when the failure has been solved.
  • Improved message for unsupported browsers - When the user tries to launch the simulator in an unsupported browser, a static image of the simulated car is shown with the advise to upgrade and the recommendation to use Chrome.
  • Improved support for iOS (Safari) and Android (Chrome) touch devices - Zoom by pinching, navigation by swiping and placing the probes is improved. Sound now also works on iOS.

Electude welcomes Award-Winning Apprentice to its Team

Reading, UK: Electude UK announced today that Catherine Treanor, an award-winning apprentice from Derby, has joined the company as a Business Development Manager.

Catherine was selected amongst thousands of entries to be highly commended by Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) for the 2013 Outstanding Achievers Award for Technical Student in the Light Vehicle category.  HRH Prince Michael of Kent presented her with her award at the IMI headquarters in Hertfordshire.

Her nomination was in recognition of the quality of her work at College and her commitment to raising the profile of women working in the motor vehicle industry.  Catherine was also named Engineering Apprentice of the year at Derby College’s Peak Awards.  Prior to joining Electude, Catherine was working for Volkswagen.

Thomas Snyder, Chief Commercial Office of Electude International. “Catherine Treanor represents the future of the automotive industry and we are very proud that such an accomplished young woman has joined our team” Mr. Snyder continued, “she will be working with colleges and academies to introduce Electude to wider base of users in England and Wales.”

Catherine Treanor commented: “I am extremely pleased to be working for Electude.  When I was studying at college, I struggled with the textbooks.  It was only when I was introduced to Electude in my second year that everything changed for me.  My understanding of the electrics and diagnostics side changed overnight and I was able to really grasp the inner workings of components. “  Catherine added: “ I look forward to working with the motor vehicle programmes to help them improve the results of their learners.”

Electude user wins Skills USA Illinois

Dear Electude,
I wanted to take a moment to send a note of thanks to you and your team regarding the use of your Electude program.   My student, Tom Hahn, and I utilized your program to prepare for the Skills USA Illinois State Championship.  The program was very comprehensive and allowed Tom to be fully prepared for the competition.
I am happy to report that Tom received 1st place at Skills USA State in the Automotive Technology division and is headed to Nationals.
Thank you again for developing such a comprehensive program.

Hundreds of quizzes have gone live

Users will have noticed that in the past months hundreds of quizzes have been added to the Electude site.
The quizzes are all linked to individual lesson modules.  The quizzes have been designed to be used as a grading instrument for instructors.  They are summative quizzes and will represent an accurate reflection of a student’s understanding of what was explained in the lesson module.
We added these quizzes because lessons were often being used for grading.  Using the formative lessons for grading is not necessarily an accurate reflection of the student’s understanding because the discovery-based learning method means getting things wrong is part of the learning process, just like with gaming.

Electude users win unprecedented double in Maine

Two teams of Electude-using automotive students from Lewiston Regional Technical Center in Maine have won first place in the Diesel Technology and Automotive Technology competitions. Both teams were trained by Rusty Parker and it marks the first time that one automotive instructor has won both competitions at Maine Skills USA.
Mr. Parker, who is a new automotive instructor at Lewiston, attributes much of the success of his students to Electude, the automotive e-learning solution that he uses instead of textbooks. “I have been using Electude for my curriculum almost from day one. Electude is a hit that speaks for itself.  My students cannot get enough of it.  They even call me on the weekends and ask for me to assign them more modules”.

There are three states, Illinois, Oklahoma and Georgia, which currently use Electude as part of their Skills USA competition. Electude has developed a special Skills USA version of Electude, which allows the teams to compete in game-like simulations. The results are scored and included as part of the overall results.

Argo makes way for Electude

We are saying goodbye to the brand name Argo.  For the past seven years our company name has been Electude and our e-learning solution was called Argo.  Electude users may have noticed that we have started phasing out the name Argo.  From now on both our company and product will be called Electude.
The reason behind this change is that we noticed that there was quite some brand confusion with the two names.  Another motivation was from a search engine perspective, Electude is easily found but Argo had to compete with the Ben Affleck movie and the ship from Greek mythology.  So we decided to simplify everything by going forward with the single brand name.

EDT to be phased out

With the introduction of the Electude Simulator, its predecessor, EDT, was removed from the core product offering in March.  If you would like to continue using EDT, please contact your local representative to arrange for this.  EDT can still be added as a separate product but this will only be done upon request from customers.
