Providing essential and next-step services to restore hope and help end homelessness in Houston.

End of the Year Campaign Update

Thanks to all who participated in our End of Year Campaign! We were able to raise over $94,000 and reached 94% of our goal because of YOU!

As 2018 kicks into gear, our work in serving Houston's homeless continues and we welcome you to visit The Beacon to see the impact of your contribution!
Annual Point-In-Time Count

How many people in Houston are homeless? The Coalition for the Homeless, along with community partners, works to help answer this question by conducting an annual Homeless Count & Survey. For this year's count, The Beacon will be a staging area on Tuesday, January 23rd and Beacon Housing Case Managers, Wayne Carter and Lindsay Kutrybala will be assisting with the unsheltered count all three days.

The Point-In-Time Count will begin with the sheltered count on Tuesday, January 23, 2017, and will continue through the 25th with an unsheltered count throughout Houston, Pasadena and Conroe as well as Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery Counties.

Brigid's Hope Christmas Party at Hotel Elem
On Monday, December 18th, Brigid's Hope hosted its annual Christmas Party at Hotel Elem. This year's soiree would not have been possible without the donation of gifts from the Black Nurses Association of Greater Houston and Brigid's Place.

We also wish to thank St. Francis Episcopal Church and the Sadler Fund for donating gifts to the women of the program to give to their children and grandchildren. This year's event was truly a success with many mentors and community volunteers showing support and kindness to the women in the program.
Generous Gifts Pour in Honoring a Couple and their Special Day
As a member of Christ Church Cathedral since the 1980’s, Shannon Lacy has been familiar with The Beacon and its good works since day one.

In Shannon's own words:
It took a personal turn for us during Hurricane Harvey.  Andrew and I were in downtown Houston for the full storm and all the aftermath. We saw firsthand the devastation that is caused, and many of those who were personally impacted. We were there the first day The Beacon opened after the storm. We worked the clothing desk, we cooked chicken, and also did dishes. We saw the people in need, and we saw the hard work of the volunteers and good folks of The Beacon trying to help everyone they could. After the storm had passed, I started to think about how else we could help long term.

We had gotten engaged over the summer, and were planning our wedding during our anniversary at the holidays. Then it hit me – Registry at The Beacon!  Andrew and I hope this goes a long way in helping others, and look forward to continuing to contribute to the Beacon!

The Beacon was so honored to earn these important financial contributions in honor of Shannon and Andrew's wedding!  These gifts will help us meet the needs of the many clients that we serve.
